It shouldn’t come as a surprise that THQ has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. After months of struggling, the company will now enter a purchasing agreement with a bidder to acquire “substantially all of the assets of THQ’s operating business, including THQ’s four owned studios and games in development.”

Filing for bankruptcy will allow for an easier transition of owned studios and games that are currently in the works. THQ Wireless, THQ Digital Studios Phoenix, Saints Row developer Volition Inc., and Darksiders creator Vigil Games are specifically mentioned in the announcement.

Resident Evil 6 sales haven’t met expectations. Capcom also just announced today that Monster Hunter 4 is being delayed to Summer 2013, into the next fiscal year. Because of these two reasons, the company has lowered its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.

Originally, a forecast of 105,000 million yen in net sales was set. Capcom is now revising the figure to 93,500 million yen, down 11 percent. Sales, operating income and net income are all less than what was previously forecast.

Capcom commented:

“Sales of the major new title Resident Evil 6 were initially strong, but subsequently weakened. As a result, sales for this title are certain to fall short of the plan. In addition, the launch of Monster Hunter 4, which was scheduled for March 2013, has been pushed back to the next fiscal year in order to further raise the quality of the game.”

Nintendo TVii launches tomorrow in North America, but it will be missing a few features.

Today’s press release confirmed that Netflix and TiVo support isn’t set to arrive until early 2013. The app won’t be able to access content from a DVR either.

Nintendo of America’s director of network business, Zach Fountain, told the New York Times that it would like to see this realized, but it first needs to reach deals with companies such as Comcast and/or DirecTV.

“We’d love to have DVR integration but we can’t do that without assistance. We’re in discussions to cover that time-shifting portion.”

Fountain also commented on how Nintendo wishes to deliver “a persistent, consistent experience.”

“We don’t believe you should have to change your app when you change the program. TV shows have apps, networks have apps, sports leagues have apps… We want to create a persistent, consistent experience.”

Reggie adds that Nintendo wants the GamePad to become “the super aggregator and super remote.”

It’s been a long wait for Soul Hackers, since this RPG was originally released for the Sega Saturn back in 1997, but it looks like the game will finally be available in English next Spring. Soul Hackers combines the usual dungeon-crawling, demon-fusing gameplay of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise with a heavy cyberpunk influence. Think Ghost in the Shell if it involved actual ghosts.

The game never even recieved a complete fan translation, so it’s great that we’ll be able to play it in English after all these years. And by we I mean those with an North American 3DS. Ghostlight, get in on this!

During the start of tonight’s Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata briefly spoke a bit about issues concerning the Wii U. Even with the latest firmware update, users have still been complaining about system update and program start loading times. Good news: both of these issues will be addressed, Iwata said.

The Nintendo president also talked about Wii U stock availability in Japan. Iwata apologized for shortages surrounding the Wii U Premium Set, but it sounds like consumers will simply need to deal with the situation for now and wait for additional units to arrive.

A group of thieves stole 7,000 Wii U consoles at a warehouse near Seattle’s SeaTac airport. Given that the average price of the system comes in at $300, the robbers made off with roughly $2.1 million in hardware.

A whole slew of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon details can be found below. Also be sure to view new screenshots and artwork which we posted earlier today.

– Each location Luigi visits is broken down into a series of missions provided by Professor E. Gadd
– Luigi will receive a checklist of objectives, with waypoints coming courtesy of a DS-esque device that features a full map
– Tasks are usually straightforward, but not always simple
– Ex: to obtain an attachment for the Poltergust 5000 vacuum, need to go through different rooms, search for hidden pathways, keys and treasure, while battling ghosts which continuously block your path or steal what you seek
– Cash and gems more important than ever
– These contribute to a mission-by-mission score based on clearance time, ghosts defeated, cash acquired and more
– They’re also used for vacuum upgrades
– According to Nintendo there isn’t a store you specifically use
– Tweaked flash-then-capture system
– Different ghosts have been designed to test Luigi’s various capabilities
– Ghosts can vanish quickly
– In these cases, you’ll need to be quick in switching from strobe to vacuum
– Other ghosts have ranged attacks, punishing you if you attempt to drain their life for too long
– Some spirits wear sunglasses
– Need to stun them with a flash and remove their glasses first
– Within the first few missions, Luigi receives a new attachment to his vacuum and the Dark-Light Device
– Dark-Light Device: uncover hidden objects and enemies
– Everything above takes place within the span of a couple missions within the first mansion
– Creaky, twisted location called the Old Clockwork Mansion is in the game

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance producer Yuji Korekado confirmed last week that a Wii U version isn’t planned. When asked by Eurogamer about the possibility once more, Korekado reiterated: “We aren’t currently thinking about that.”

Here’s Korekado’s explanation:

“We aren’t currently thinking about that. One of the strongest appeals of the Wii U is the GamePad. However, we’ve constructed Metal Gear Rising so you can fully enjoy the game on the controllers whether it’s on the PS3 or the Xbox. So, currently we aren’t thinking about Metal Gear Rising on the Wii U.”

Nintendo of Europe has done a standout job with eShop sales thus far. 3DS VC titles have been discounted regularly, and even Wii U eShop titles have started to see temporary price drops.

The same can’t be said for the situation in North America. Sales have been few and far between, and the Wii U store has yet to see a single discount.

One does have to wonder why there haven’t been any Wii U sales yet. Broken Rules co-founder Felix Bohatsch recently wrote on Twitter that the studio would like to have a sale for Chasing Aurora, “but we can’t yet”.

Bohatsch tweeted:

“We’d love to put @Chasing_Aurora on sale in the US as well, but we can’t yet… you’ll have to ask @NintendoAmerica what the exact reasons are…”

Hey everyone, it’s Patrick here and throughout this week I’ll be celebrating Christmas in the only way relevant to this website – by taking a look at a bunch of terrible Christmas specials based on various Nintendo titles. First up is the Super Mario Bros. Super Show – a late-80’s TV program featuring cartoons based on Super Mario Bros. and Zelda. This Christmas episode —Koopa Klaus— is one of the rare episodes of the show  that isn’t just a reference to a popular movie like  “Raiders of the Lost Mushroom” or “On Her Majesty’s Sewer Service”, but that doesn’t make it any less awful.
