Rumors

When Monster Hunter 3 was revealed to the public, most were shocked that the game would appear on a Nintendo system. Rather than releasing on the PS3, Capcom had decided to go with the Wii to release the game. However, if the latest rumor is true, Monster Hunter 3 might not be a Wii exclusive after all.

A rough translation of a blurb from a foreign gaming magazine is as follows: “The decision of Monster Hunter 3’s Wii-exclusivity is not yet final.” This bit of information comes from a Capcom representative. The thing is, as was mentioned, the line from the representative is a rough translation. Moreover, we can’t be 100% sure that this rumor is true until Capcom officially confirms/denies the rumor.

If the latest rumor from EGM/Quartermann are to be believed, Dragon Quest IX will not only release for the Nintendo DS, but for the Wii as well. The rumor guesses that the mode would work similarly to the Pollux Engine for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time for the Wii/DS. The question is, will there be any graphical change from the DS to Wii?

Here’s the official description of the rumor:

“While Dragon Quest IX being announced for the DS rather than a home console was a big enough surprise in the first place, fans of the long-running series were even more shocked to discover that this latest entry will sport faster-paced gameplay and a surprising MMO-lite option to play with up to four friends. Assuming this multiplayer mode works similarly to the DS-and-Wii-linking Echoes of Time, it makes sense that Square would bring DQIX to the console as well. The only question that remains is whether or not the Wii port will receive a graphical upgrade — the Wii and DS versions of the new Crystal Chronicles are going to be identical, after all. Hopefully Square will confirm this news soon and give us more details.”

Update: According to Square Enix PR, the game has actually not been canceled! Expect to hear an official statement sometime soon.

One of the rumors in the latest edition of EGM notes that Square Enix is “quietly canceling” Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers for Wii. The Crystal Bearers was one of the first titles announced for Wii, though very little information has been heard over the past few months. The game was also absent from this year’s TGS showing. Square Enix plans on releasing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, which may be the company’s way of replacing The Crystal Bearers.

I typically avoid posting GameStop related release dates, but a listing for The Conduit caught my eye. Way back when, High Voltage Software confirmed that the game would be shipping in March 2009. According to the GameStop listing though, the game will be out in May instead. This may be nothing more than an error on GameStop’s part. However, it is reasonable that High Voltage needs some extra development time to polish the title. Either way, I’m sure we’ll hear word about the game’s official release date in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

An official publisher announcement for The Conduit should be coming very soon. Some have guessed that Nintendo would publish the game, though the company later dismissed the speculation. A recent discovery, however, may point to the official publisher of the game. Currently, SEGA’s FTP site has a listing for The Conduit under its directory of games (with an empty folder). This isn’t a 100% guarantee that SEGA is the publisher of the game. Even so, this is a pretty good sign. There’s not much of a reason why the game would be listed there unless SEGA had some sort of connection to The Conduit. We’ll find out soon enough, but how would you guys feel about SEGA publishing the title?

If recent ratings by the USK are to be believed, Broken Sword titles for the Wii and DS could be releasing in the future. The ratings have been filed by Ubisoft under both Nintendo systems, but we’ll have to wait and see if the rumor is more than wishful thinking.

Source

An unknown source claims to have assets of Saint’s Row, a game which was at one time in development for the Wii. The source further claims that Californian Mass Media Inc. was in charge of the project. The game would see obvious downgrades in textures and geometry, though the general idea was to keep gameplay intact. As can be seen however, the project never saw the day of light.

Rumor has it that Nintendo will be announcing a new game based on an old franchise. The article also reports that the old franchise is something “that everyone is waiting for.” Kid Icarus and Punch-Out are two prominent possibilities. Both titles have been rumored to be in development. More news is expected at Nintendo’s upcoming conference in Japan.

Update: The image posted before was actually a picture of the DS Lite’s screens. I’ve edited in a new picture, and supposedly the image above is what the screens will look like.

Obviously, this picture doesn’t look to be the whole DS pieced together…Just part of how it looks, meaning the screens. I’m still slightly skeptical that Nintendo even has a new DS in store. Would they really be willing to release a new product despite successful sales with the DS Lite?

Update: Looks like Nikkei Net is confirming the news.

A massive rumor has just hit the Internet involving features in a new DS system. Nekkei newspaper and Monex have allegedly released information detailing functions in a new DS model such as music playback, the inclusion of a digital camera, and a larger screen. The new DS would sell for under 20000 yen in Japan later this year and would additionally allow for data exchange on an SD card between the Wii and DS. As was mentioned, the rumor also says there will be a wireless connection power up function and the digital camera would allow for news types of games.

Keep in mind that this is a very big rumor and I wouldn’t exactly trust this information (hence why I’m marking it as a rumor in the first place!) Even though Nintendo has conferences scheduled next week, considering the DS’ sales have yet to truly slow (and the fact that Nintendo hasn’t exactly been a full SD card supporter), a new system might not be the smartest thing for Nintendo.
