Switch 2

While Xbox did this previously, 2024 marked the year when the company made its biggest push yet regarding releasing its games on other platforms. Nintendo Switch benefited from the approach in the form of Grounded and Pentiment on the console.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now briefly weighed in on Microsoft’s approach going forward. In an interview with Bloomberg, while discussing bringing more games to Nintendo and PlayStation, he said that there are no “red lines in our portfolio that say ‘thou must not.'” He added that no decisions have been made about the next Halo given how early in development that game is.

Mario Kart 9 features

Mario Kart 8 was originally released for the Wii U in 2014. That’s over ten years ago! Since then, the game has received a host of refinements, updates, and new content. This includes everything from characters to courses to balance changes and everything in between. Then we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a renewed version of the game on Nintendo Switch – and it sold so incredibly well that Nintendo never got around to making an all-new entry on the console. It’s easy to see why, but with rumors of the Switch 2 swirling around as usual, it might be time for the Mario Kart franchise to look to the future. We think a hypothetical Mario Kart entry on Switch 2 needs a couple of key features to succeed – here’s everything we’d like to see in the next game.

Nintendo just gave an update on Switch 2 during its Corporate Management Policy Briefing. According to president Shuntaro Furukawa, backwards compatibility is planned – meaning you’ll be able to play current Switch software on the system. Furthermore, Nintendo Switch Online will be extended to the new platform.

In hindsight, both of these elements feel like fairly obvious inclusions. For one thing, Nintendo has looked to continually increase the appeal of Switch Online over the years with additional benefits, including last week’s launch of Nintendo Music. Also, while there have been some exceptions, Nintendo has been known for its backwards compatibility functionality with many of its devices.

Switch 2 update November 2024

As fans continue to wonder when Nintendo will pull back the curtain on Switch 2, we have reconfirmation that an announcement is still happening this fiscal year.

President Shuntaro Furukawa said today that there’s been “no change” regarding the timeline. That means we should be hearing something by the end of March 2025. However, it remains to be seen when the system will actually launch.

Yooka-Replaylee

Playtonic has just announced that it’s bringing Yooka-Replaylee to “Nintendo”, which one would have to think is Switch’s successor.

The game was first announced earlier in the year. It’s a remaster / remake of Yooka-Laylee, the debut project from Playtonic. The title features improved graphics, more dynamic worlds, new and improved challenges, new collectibles, new characters, quality of life improvements, and more.

Game Freak hack leak

Game Freak, the main developer of Pokemon, appears to have been hit with a significant hack. As a result, source code for various games, behind-the-scenes information, and more has started to leak online.

Thus far we know that source code for Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver and Black 2 / White 2 have surfaced. A few codenames are also popping up, including “Gaia” – which is apparently what Gen 10 is going by internally. Speaking of which, the new gen is apparently being developed for “Ounce”, which supposedly confirms Switch 2’s codename. And for those curious, “Ikkaku” is the codename for Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Switch 2 Devolver Digital

Devolver Digital COO Graeme Struthers has shared some praise for Switch as well as some excitement for Switch 2.

Struthers was speaking with Gamereactor during a preview event for the upcoming game Neva. Neva will be joining Devolver’s huge lineup of releases on Switch – right now there are over fifty games available from the publisher on Nintendo’s console.

Struthers said that Switch has been “much more indie-friendly”. You can read his full comments below.

Switch 2 prototype

The Switch 2 rumor mill continues to heat up, and today factory prototype images have allegedly leaked.

The photos are in a rough state and obviously don’t show things in the final form that would reach consumers. However, there are interesting things to note here, including the actual build and a look at the new version of the Joy-Con. On top of that, the device will apparently include USB-C ports at the top and bottom of the device.

Below are the rumored photos (a couple include comparison photos to the current Switch):

My Time At Evershine

Pathea Games has unveiled My Time At Evershine as a sequel to My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock, and it’s planned for Switch 2.

While the previous games launched on the current Switch, the upcoming project isn’t planned for that console. Instead, Pathea Games is targeting Nintendo support with Switch 2. The studio specifically says it’ll be appearing on “future Nintendo platforms yet to be announced.”

My Time At Evershine is an adventure-packed simulation RPG. This time around, players will step into the role of governor of the Evershine Settlement and build up the infrastructure.

Here’s a bunch of additional information:

Battlefield Switch 2

Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn and head of EA Studios, recently commented on the company’s feelings when it comes to Nintendo and the possibility of bringing Battlefield to Switch 2.

Zampella was speaking in an interview with IGN when he called Nintendo a “great partner”. And while there isn’t much to say about Switch 2 since the since has yet to be unveiled, it sounds like EA would be open to bringing Battlefield to the new console.
