Trine developer Frozenbyte is working on a new project called “Splot”. For now, the game is only scheduled to arrive on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Linux. There’s also a possibility of Splot coming to Wii U.
According to Frozenbyte marketing manager Julius Fondem, bringing Splot to Nintendo’s console would require “a lot of technical work” because the team isn’t using the same technology that powered Trine 2: Director’s Cut. But if Splot is successful, Frozenbyte may feel more inclined to bring it to Wii U, and the studio is certainly thinking about the possibility.
Fondem also confirmed that Frozenbyte “would definitely want to bring our future titles to the Wii U.”
“We would definitely want to bring our future titles to the Wii U. With Splot though the situation is a bit more complex as the technology we’re using isn’t the same as for Trine 2: Director’s Cut, so there’s a lot of technical work in getting Splot running on “high end” consoles like the Wii U. We are pushing as hard as we can to get Splot out on iOS, Android and computer platforms first. Depending on Splot’s success, we’ll see about other platforms. So, we haven’t decided on the Wii U for Splot yet, but it is something we’re considering.”
GamesIndustry recently caught up with three major third-party publishers to discuss Wii U. Ubisoft, Activision, and EA shared a few thoughts about the console while speaking with the outlet.
One of the more troubling items to emerge from the discussion concerns ZombiU. The game wasn’t even close to being profitable, according to Ubisoft. The company therefore has no plans or interest in making a sequel currently. ZombiU’s poor performance was also one of the reasons why Rayman Legends turned into a multiplatform title.
You can find commentary from the three publishers below.
Young Justice: Legacy developer Freedom Factory is working on a new project for Wii U titled “Bloodbath”. A trailer was released a few months ago, but the game only recently popped up in the news.
An official game description reads:
BloodBath is a 3rd person Hack’n’Slash set in a dystopian future where a violent bloodsport is the only outlet for the frustration of society. Select your Pit Dog and prepare to fight all around the world against merciless adversaries in dangerous arenas full of death traps and hazards. Enjoy a Multiplayer experience like no other in “Bloodbath”

Not one, but two Oddworld games are heading to Wii U. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath will be coming to the console as well as the upcoming Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.
Interestingly, it appears that Nintendo requested New ‘n’ Tasty for the eShop. According to the latest issue of ONM:
“Not only did we hear that forgotten platform classic Abe’s Oddysee would be getting a remake, New ‘N’ Tasty, on Wii U eShop, we also then found out Nintendo had asked the developer for the HD remake of shooter sequel, Stranger’s Wrath, they were working on, too. We’re already belching loudly in anticipation.”
Another wave of Pikmin 3 details have come in.
First, the back of the game’s Japanese boxart appears to reconfirm 1080p support and worldwide leaderboards. We previously knew that Pikmin 3 would support the ability to upload scores online of some sort.
A few more Pikmin 3 bits can be found below, courtesy of Gamereactor:
– Improved AI for the Pikmin
– Pikmin may become frustrated, take their own initiatives, etc.
– White and purple Pikmin only appear in multiplayer
– You can point your Wiimote at the Wii U GamePad screen
– Rainbow onion lets you produce different Pikmin types at once
– You collect abilities such as increased whistle range or shield
– New nice transition-landscape sections
