XSEED Games to Publish Solatorobo: Red the Hunter in North America This Fall

Torrance, Calif., (June 24, 2011) – XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced a partnership with Namco Bandai Games that will bring the highly-acclaimed Action RPG title Solatorobo: Red the Hunter to North America on the Nintendo DS™ handheld system. Developed by celebrated Japanese game studio CyberConnect2, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (also known as Solatorobo: And Then to CODA) is viewed by many as the spiritual successor to the classic RPG adventure, Tail Concerto, which drew praise in the late 1990s for its anime-style artistic elements and distinctive anthropomorphic animal characters, traits which are shared by Solatorobo. Under the exclusive agreement, XSEED Games will have sole publishing rights to Solatorobo: Red the Hunter in North America when it releases this fall on Nintendo DS.

“We are extremely excited to bring Solatorobo: Red the Hunter to all the fans who have been clamoring for this amazing game since its initial release in Japan,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “Solatorobo delivers a fresh new style of game for the popular handheld which consists of an extremely unique and detailed world, resulting in an experience that is both rich in story and of a high visual fidelity rarely seen on the Nintendo DS platform.”

This information comes from XSEED Games’ Twitter…

“It’s official! Rejoice, DS gamers! XSEED has declared that robot-riding animals and epic air battles are IN! Solatorobo is coming your way!”

I truly applaud XSEED for localizing some of the games we never expected to arrive in North America. They’ve taken a chance on the likes of Retro Game Challenge, Ivy the Kiwi?, KORG DS-10, and many more. You guys better purchase Solatorobo, since it’s a really fantastic game. Plus, I’m sure XSEED wouldn’t mind the support!

In 1976, Mort Garson released an album titled Plantasia. But there’s one song in particular that should resonate with Zelda aficionados. Now, I have no idea if it’s just a coincidence or if Koji Kondo somehow took inspiration from the track “Concerto For Philodendron And Pothos”, but it certainly sounds similar to Zelda’s Lullaby in some ways. Take a listen above.

This information comes from Aliens: Colonial Marines producer Brian Burleson…

“We didn’t get the hardware for the Wii U until a couple of months ago, and we’ve been working on it since. The software, it’s pretty easy to work on, so that makes things a lot easier. When you already have something working, especially on the Unreal Engine, it’s a pretty basic, straightforward port at that point. Unreal makes it easier to do that, for sure. It’s too early too early to talk about the specifics on that [Wii U functionality], because we’ve just got things working. We’ll talk more about what that’s going to be and what’s going on in the future. But the goal is always to make it… for all the platforms to be the same. It really sucks to have a game be nerfed on one platform, or missing a feature on one platform. So the goal is always to make we’re fully-featured, and that everything is the same experience. It [the game] runs on the console, and you can do some really cool stuff with it. We’ll talk more about that in the future, but just think about the possibilities.”

A common compliment we’ve been hearing from developers is that it’s been easy working with the Wii U hardware. Here’s hoping that even more companies will be open to trying out the Wii U if teams can get content running without much trouble.

Could Europe really end up receiving the trio of recent Wii RPGs? Xenoblade Chronicles is out in September, while Nintendo of France’s Director of Marketing Matthew Minel has provided some encouraging words for those hoping that The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower will be brought over as well. In an interview with Gamekyo, Minel said:

“We’re in the US, so we can’t speak about The Last Story… We hope it’ll be released. We are only allowed to say ‘hope’… Hope is promising… just like with Pandora’s Tower.”

Minel apparently topped off that last statement with an enormous smile. If The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower get localized, I’m moving to Europe!

It appears that Monolith Soft’s next title is for Wii U. The company’s job solicitation page was updated earlier today, stating that they are hiring staff for a game that will be created for Nintendo’s upcoming console. Other than that, we don’t have any additional information. With any luck, perhaps Nintendo of America will localize a Monolith Soft game… whenever it’s finally ready to be released, that is!

Thanks to Thomas N for the tip!
