There’s still a small glimmer of hope that Xenoblade Chronicles will be released in North America. Reggie Fils-Aime commented directly on the possibility of localization, explaining that they’ll be looking to see how the title performs in Europe.
Fils-Aime said:
“We will be watching very closely what happens in Europe. Certainly if there are business opportunities and positive consumer uptake from some of those titles, that will be great data for us to consider as we look at what to do with these titles.”
If you ask me, that’s kind of unfair. Reggie seems to hint that Xenoblade Chronicles could be brought over if the game sells well in Europe, but I don’t see why Nintendo of America should base any decision on that alone. There have quite a few titles that have sold better in the Americas in Europe. Heck, that response could just be a means to quiet the fans for now…
Why do I get the feeling that this doesn’t change anything and that we’ll never see the game in the states?
New Color, New Price and Great Games Make Nintendo 3DS a Must-Have
REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 10, 2011 – Nintendo is making sure the holidays are hot this year with a new Flame Red version of its portable Nintendo 3DS™ system. The new color launches Sept. 9 alongside the new Star Fox 64™ 3D game, and comes on the heels of a new $169.99 suggested retail price, which goes into effect Aug. 12 in the United States. Flame Red joins Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue, so now shoppers have three distinct and fashionable colors to choose from.
“Nintendo 3DS is poised to be on fire for the holidays, with its new suggested retail price, great games and our new Flame Red color,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “With major upcoming releases in the Star Fox, Pokémon and Mario series, in addition to downloadable offerings from Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Video and Netflix, the system offers new and fun experiences to owners on a daily basis.”
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a DS Game Night, so we’re due for another one! It’ll operate similar to Wii Game Nights… just with DS systems instead. Mario Kart DS will probably be on the agenda, though we’ll be open to other suggestions as well.
Just be sure to free up some time on Friday starting at 8 PM EDT!
THQ is changing their direction a bit. They’ll be refocusing their resources and will be cutting down on liscensed kids titles, movie-based releases, and MX vs. ATV products.
Along with this news comes the closure of THQ Brisbane and Blue Tongue. Nintendo fans will remember Blue Tongue for their high-quality de Blob games. Around 200 staff members will be laid off across both studios.
THQ Inc., (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced a strategic realignment of its internal studio development teams to better align resources with the company’s future portfolio of interactive entertainment. THQ is in the process of transitioning its portfolio away from licensed kids titles and movie-based entertainment properties for consoles and has also decided not to actively pursue further development of the MX vs. ATV franchise at this time. As a result, the company announced the closure of two studios in Australia, and the elimination of a development team at the company’s Phoenix location. The company is maintaining its Quality Assurance team in Phoenix.
THQ’s five internal development studios are focused on key initiatives and franchises: THQ Montreal, creating an unannounced new IP with a team led by industry veteran, Patrice Désilets; Volition, Inc., developing the highly anticipated upcoming game Saints Row(R): The Third,(TM) and inSANE(TM) in collaboration with renowned film director Guillermo del Toro; Relic Entertainment, creators of Company of Heroesand the upcoming Warhammer 40,000(R): Space Marine(TM) for PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system; Vigil Games, developing Darksiders(R) II and next year’s MMO Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online(TM); and THQ San Diego, developers of WWE All Stars and creating best-in-class fighting games.
This sounds like it could be interesting! Plus, it’s great to see a new title being developed for the eShop…

This information comes from Nintendo’s marketing assistant for DS Rebecca Archer…
“Lylat Wars has sold over 180,000 units in the UK. The game features in the Nintendo Power’s ‘Top 200 Nintendo Games Ever’ so I definitely think there is consumer appetite for an updated re-release, as the original title was so popular.”
Star Fox 64 sold fairly well back in the day, but times have changed since then. I have a rather bad feeling that the 3D remake won’t be nearly as successful. I do hope I’m proven wrong, though.
By the way, in case you’re wondering, Lylat Wars is Star Fox 64. That title was given to the game in Europe.
