Earlier today, rumors surfaced that the DSi would soon be receiving the ability to download Game Boy/GBA games, similar to the Wii Virtual Console. Though it should still be considered a rumor, another platinum Club Nintendo member who attended a DSi preview event in Illinois is claiming the same rumor is indeed true. Not only that, however, but this person also says that the representative at the event mentioned SEGA is interested in bringing Game Gear titles to the DSi. Nothing is set in stone at all at this point, but SEGA is apparently looking into it.

Following up on the story regarding a full-fledged Pokemon title on the Wii, it also looks like a MMO entry in the series can be ruled out for now as well. Pokemon Platinum game director Junichi Masuda reiterated the importance of “real-world communication” and how players are unable to “see each other online.”

“At this point, we’re not thinking of going in that direction [MMO]. Trading is a core concept of Pokémon. So when you’re trading, you meet with a friend and decide which one you want and which one they want. I would like to emphasize real-world communication. You don’t see each other online.”

World of Goo has been one of the standout WiiWare titles. Not only is it a fantastic game, but it has also topped the weekly charts on Nintendo’s downloadable service for weeks. At GDC today, co-creator of World of Goo Rob Carmel (2D Boy) chatted about the costs and profits of the game’s development.

In two years, $96,000 was spent in addition to the costs of investments – $1,000 on software, $4,000 on hardware, $5,000 for localization, $5,000 for legal fees, and another $5,000 on QA testing. As far as sales of World of Goo goes, in 2008, 60% of all sales can be attributed to WiiWare, 25% came from the website, and 3% resulted from retail.
