EA Sports

Update: This concerning note was found buried in the video:

It’s looking like FIFA 18 on Switch wasn’t made with the Frostbite engine, and at least one mode is missing. We’re hoping that EA hasn’t made a ton of compromises here. FIFA 18’s Switch version is likely more in line with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions as opposed to PS4 and Xbox One.

Original: There’s been some uncertainty as to what FIFA on Switch actually is. EA seems to have finally settled on things, as a new announcement that just went out has the game down as “FIFA 18”.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid C.F. will be appearing as the global cover star of FIFA 18. We also have confirmation that it’s launching on September 29 worldwide.

We’ve included a trailer promoting Ronaldo as FIFA 18’s cover athlete below.

Note: before anyone gets confused, the video above isn’t where we’ve received the information. A press email delivered to us notes that FIFA 18 is “launching worldwide September 29, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 systems.”

EA won’t have a traditional press conference at E3 this year. That’s in large part because the publisher is hosting its own event dedicated for fans, known as EA Play 2017.

The full lineup for EA Play 2017 was announced today. Interestingly, FIFA on Switch will be playable for the first time (as of now it’s not using the FIFA 18 name by the way).

EA Play 2017 will take place on the following days / times at the Hollywood Palladium:

Saturday June 10 from 4pm – 8pm
Sunday June 11 from 12pm – 6pm
Monday June 12 from 12pm – 5pm

EA Play 2017 will be fully open to the public. Free tickets can be ordered here.

Nintendo put up several Japanese Switch ads a few hours ago. One of these included a commercial featuring FIFA 18.

Before we start analyzing what was shown and comparing it to other versions, there is something important to point out. Nintendo briefly included a bit of text saying that the game is still in development, and could be changed before release. That means we may have to wait and see what FIFA 18 truly looks like on Switch.

Thanks to ben for the tip.

Today at a Nintendo event in Tokyo, Patrick Söderlund announced that EA SPORTS FIFA will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. To take you behind-the-scenes into the event we have included a full transcript from today’s announcement:

It’s a huge honor and privilege to be here today representing the passionate and talented team at Electronic Arts. For me, to be on this stage is like a dream come true. For as long as I’ve played games, I’ve been a massive fan of the Nintendo platforms and amazing culture of creativity…so much so that when my first son was born, my wife and I gave him the middle name Luigi!

So today, we’re extremely excited to announce that the world’s most popular sports game will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

EA SPORTS FIFA on Nintendo Switch will be the most immersive, social, and authentic sports game ever created for Nintendo players.

It will deliver the FIFA experience custom built for Nintendo Switch…so you can play anywhere, play with anyone, and play how you want to play.

If you’re at the park, at your friend’s house, or on vacation, you can always stay connected to the biggest matches. You’ll be able to get on the pitch with your favorite players and teams from the world’s best leagues in iconic stadiums from around the world…all with the unmatched authenticity and depth that FIFA is known for.

We’ll have much more to say and show in the coming months as we bring the world’s game to Nintendo Switch in 2017.
