Kirby Air Riders

Today, we’re going over some characters we’d like to see in the final version of Kirby Air Riders.

Kirby Air Riders recently received a big 45-minute Nintendo Direct presentation with tons of info and character reveals, including the newly-announced November 20 release date. During the presentation, game director Masahiro Sakurai commented that the game is called “Air Riders” because this time around, you can choose from multiple riders rather than just Kirby (and King Dedede and Meta Knight, who were unlockable in the original).

Right now, Kirby Air Riders has a decent-sized roster: it includes Kirby, Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee, Chef Kawasaki, Cappy, Magolor, Gooey, Waddle Doo, Knuckle Joe, Susie, and Starman. But during the Nintendo Direct, Sakurai stated that there was more information to reveal prior to the game’s launch in November. Though it’s entirely possible we’ve seen the final roster for the game, it’s also possible that there are hidden or unlockable characters.

It was a busy week for gaming news, which included the proper reveal for Kirby Air Riders with a Nintendo Direct lasting close to an hour. Director Masahiro Sakurai went into detail about the game, revealing its various features. We saw stages, playable characters, the return of City Trial mode, and more. On top of that, we now have a release date of November 20, 2025. Catch up on everything shown here.

Following the Direct, how are you feeling about Kirby Air Riders so far? Do you plan on picking it up this holiday? Let us know in the comments.

Kirby Air Riders has officially confirmed plans for local mutliplayer splitscreen support.

Not including the feature would have been an odd omission. However, some fans were concerned that it wouldn’t be a part of the Nintendo Switch 2 game. During this week’s Nintendo Direct for the title, splitscreen multiplayer for Kirby Air Riders actually wasn’t mentioned.

In today’s Kirby Air Riders Direct, director Masahiro Sakurai gave more background information regarding how the project came to be, including why he made the game.

It turns out that Shinya Takahashi, head of software development at Nintendo and former HAL Laboratory president Satoshi Mitsuhara really wanted to make it happen. Sakurai was busy with DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the time, but he “managed to complete a written proposal at high speed.”

Now that today’s Kirby Air Riders Direct has wrapped up, Nintendo has passed along an official recap announcement. A ton of information was shared in the 45-minute presentation, but thanks to the press release, everything is neatly summarized.

Also, this wasn’t covered in the presentation, but we now know that Kirby Air Riders is playable at PAX West 2025. Demos will require a Warp Pipe Pass reservation.

Kirby Air Riders release date

During today’s Kirby Air Riders Direct, a release date was given for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game. It will be available on November 20, 2025.

Kirby Air Riders received a blowout of footage, details, and more as part of today’s presentation. It was our first proper look at the title following the original announcement in April.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Kirby Air Riders Direct live stream

With the Kirby Air Riders Direct beginning soon, we have a new dedicated post for the live stream. The fun begins at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM in the UK / 3 PM in Europe.

As previously confirmed, the broadcast will be about 45 minutes long. Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s director, will act as host and will finally give us our first look at the Nintendo Switch title. Other than that, we don’t have much to go on, but expected a big blowout here.

Kirby Air Riders Direct

A new Kirby Air Riders Direct has just been announced. It will air tomorrow, August 19 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM in the UK / 3 PM in Europe. This is confirmed via the Nintendo Today app.

The broadcast will be about 45 minutes long. Information about the Switch 2 game will be shared, but otherwise, Nintendo is letting fans speculate about specifics.

There are a lot of question marks surrounding the rest of Nintendo’s Switch 2 lineup for the rest of the year, including Kirby Air Riders. Outside of the initial reveal back in April, we haven’t heard about the project at all. Making things stranger is the fact that the game is supposed to launch this year, even though we’ve yet to see any actual footage.

We do at least have a brief status update from director Masahiro Sakurai. Just a few minutes ago, Sakurai shared on social media that he thinks he’ll be able to share more information about the game soon. We’re already in mid-August, so fans are wondering what’s happening with the project.

2025 is a great year for racing games! Everybody’s talking about Mario Kart World right now, but the new Kirby Air Riders is also coming out sometime in 2025. It’s directed by Masahiro Sakurai, and it’s actually the first Kirby game he’s directed since the original Kirby Air Ride on GameCube over 20 years ago. Though Kirby Air Ride was met with mixed reviews on launch, it’s since become something of a cult classic. It’s beloved for its addictive City Trial mode, and the crazy part is that the entire game was developed in three and a half months. According to Sakurai, Kirby Air Riders has been in active development since April 2022, which means it’s had over three years to cook. In other words, Kirby Air Riders might be a bigger game than we realize – which makes sense, given it’s had over ten times the development time of the original game!
