Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World pros cons

Mario Kart World was the Nintendo Switch 2’s big headlining launch title, and it’s already enjoyed a great deal of financial success so far. Up until now, it’s sold somewhere around 5,630,000 copies – a tremendous number for an all-new console. Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Mario Kart World the whole way through, however – it’s received some criticism and backlash thanks to a couple of odd decisions from Nintendo, and now a good chunk of players have moved on from the game. In other words, Mario Kart World’s “new toy syndrome” has worn off – which has left some players a bit more critical of the game than when it first released.

So today, we’re taking another look at Mario Kart World two months later. How does it hold up? What stands out as its current strengths and weaknesses? We also invite you to share your thoughts with us in the comments down below.

Mario Kart World update 1.2.0

Mario Kart World just received a big update with version 1.2.0.

One of the takeaways is that Nintendo has increased the frequency of lap-type courses that appear when choosing the next course in “VS Race” and wireless races. This was previously changed, and saw some controversy. Nintendo seems to have swung things back a bit in response.

There’s plenty of other things here as well. One of the big changes is that CPUs have been made weaker in everything outside of Battle. There are also other adjustments, fixes, and more.

Here’s the full rundown:

Toad Toadette new voice actors

We’re continuing to hear about new voice actors for characters in the Mario universe, and we now know about who’s playing Toad and Toadette.

Laila Berzins has taken over the role of Toad. Meanwhile, Laura Stahl is playing Toadette. We’ll also mention that Paul Castro Jr. plays male Toads players encounter in Mario Kart World.

The new voice actor for Princess Peach has come forward, and we now know that Courtney Lin is playing the role

Lin’s first recordings for Peach were for Mario Kart World. Additionally, she played Baby Peach in the racer as well, which isn’t unexpected.

Speaking about playing Princess Peach, Lin shared the following on social media:

Nintendo has just announced a special campaign for Mario Kart Tour in celebration of the launch of Mario Kart World. The campaign will be held between July 23 to August 6 2025, bringing with it some new content.

The big N had announced in 2023 that Mario Kart Tour would stop receiving new content after 4 years of support. This coincided with the closing out of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass. This new campaign will bring Mario and Luigi in their mechanic uniforms, as well as add 4 differently colored variations of the Tiny Titan kart from World.

Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch Online icons

June 4: As we enter the Nintendo Switch 2 era, the very first Switch Online icons are here for a game on the console – that being Mario Kart World.

Starting today, different designs will be available if you’re a member of the service. Fans can grab icons for many different characters, backgrounds, and frames. Characters, as usual, cost 10 My Nintendo Platinum Points each. Backgrounds and frames will set you back 5 Platinum Points. Icons can be earned on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Mario Kart World items tier list

Mario Kart World introduced plenty of new items to the series, and now it’s got more unique items than any other game in the franchise. Not all of them are winners, though, and after almost 100 hours playing the game we’ve decided to rank every single one in a tier list. We’ve also added explanations on why each item is in its respective tier.

How Nintendo could handle Mario Kart World updates

Today, we’re discussing Mario Kart World and how Nintendo could add new content to the game, plus the kind of characters and courses we could wind up seeing.

To start, we need to make something clear right away: Mario Kart World is a fantastic game as-is. Is it worth $80 when purchased outside the bundle? That’s up for you to decide, but ultimately Nintendo could further bolster the game with free updates. Think of it this way: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe cost $60 on launch even though it was a port and not an all-new title, and then it received a $25 DLC pack on top of that – which adds up to an $85 price tag (although you can technically borrow the DLC for free with a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack plan). This is a big assumption, but Nintendo could potentially earn back some good will by releasing free updates. It’s also entirely possible that Nintendo decides to charge for DLC packs – it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they did, but we feel like Mario Kart World has already received some substantial backlash for its $80 price tag. Adding DLC on top of that wouldn’t make the situation much better.

To an extent, online play at a high level has always been difficult in the Mario Kart series. That said, Mario Kart World has upped the difficulty in pretty much every category. Items are more chaotic, the game’s skill ceiling is much higher, and items are much more chaotic (again). These factors make racking up wins online much more difficult, with Knockout Tour in particular being specifically brutal in big groups. Given all the factors out of your control, it’s probably impossible to guarantee wins online – but today, we’re going over some tips and tricks that might help you improve your placement in big races.

Mario Kart World My Nintendo reward

For Mario Kart World fans, a new My Nintendo item has just been added in North America. The rewards site is now offering a postcard set.

The set includes five designs in total. Each one features courses from Mario Kart World with detailed artwork. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and Yoshi are included. You can use the postcards to send a message or collect them as a piece of Nintendo memorabilia.
