Update: Added in the full announcement below.
Original: Niantic announced today that Pokemon GO will be adding 80 new Pokemon from the second generation of Pokemon games this week. Additionally, new features are on the way.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile are just some of the new Pokemon that can be encountered. New evolutionary items and berries are coming to the game as well. The former will help players complete their Johto collections, while the latter will make battles feel a little more challenging.
Pokemon GO will now have the Nanab Berry and Pinap Berry. With the Nanab Berry, Pokemon will be slowed down so it’s less likely for them to run off. Pinap Berries give players twice as much candy upon a successful catch.
New customization options can be purchased as well. This will allow users to further customize their looks.

Niantic adding new features to Pokemon GO soon, wants to hold events, tracker not returning
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 16 Comments
At the start of July, Pokemon GO will be celebrating its first anniversary. The game has no doubt been an incredible success so far over the past several months, but players have been waiting on new features, including the ability to trade Pokemon.
Speaking with Waypoint, Niantic CEO John Hanke did say that new features are due out soon in “an abbreviated form”, with more complete versions to follow later.
Hanke told the site:
“It has far surpassed our expectations in just turning everybody onto the potential for games that break out of the screen. But the priority for Pokémon Go now is to build in those things that reward co-operative gameplay, and make experiences available that offer more depth than just the capturing mechanic.”

There’s some new hints for Gen 2 Pokémon and more in latest Pokémon GO patch data
Posted on 7 years ago by Fernando in Mobile, News | 5 Comments
Dataminers at The Silph Road have found more signs of arriving new Pokémon inside the raw data of Pokémon GO’s most recent patch.
Specifically, there’s some new mentions for evolution items such as King’s Rock, Metal Coat or Upgrade, which can be used to evolve Slowbro into Slowking, Onix into Steelix and Porygon into Porygon2. There’s also the Sun Stone and the Dragon Scale, evolutionary items that are needed to get Bellossom and Kingdra. All of these Generation 2 Pokémon would be ready to obtain in future updates along with Unowns, which have been mentioned explicitly as forms ranging from Unown A to Unown Exclamation Point.
According to The Silph Road, there has been an addition of 38 new moves. This is the first time that Niantic has implemented moves to Pokémon GO if we don’t take into account Ditto’s Transform.
Additionally, they have found more mentions to avatar customization such as belts, glasses and necklaces, more code to support the shiny and gender variations of pokémon and a new system for debugging purposes.
It is expected that Niantic will implement these new features in a future Pokémon GO update.
