Sonic Racing CrossWorlds modes

SEGA continues to drop news for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and the company has now passed along a recap of game modes. Other features are covered as well, including the Rival System, local co-op, and cross-play.

The full rundown is as follows:

Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man are teaming up with two new DLC packs.

In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the game is getting Pac-Man World DLC. Similarly, Sonic DLC is planned for Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Aqua Forest

Another track reveal for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and today, SEGA showed off Aqua Forest. A clip of the stage was shown off on social media.

We’ve seen plenty of forest tracks in racers before, but SEGA indicates that this one is like a rollercoaster through the forest. The company also teased: “Nail your timing on the water jumps and something special awaits…”

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Urban Canyon

SEGA is giving Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds fans a first look at a new track in the game, which is Urban Canyon. A video was posted on social media just a few minutes ago.

According to SEGA, Urban Canyon features a “colorful, rugged canyon” that lets players “choose between soaring through the sky or speeding past the competition on the ground”. If you go with the aerial route, you can gain the lead with the Ring Cyclone.

SEGA shared a bit of additional information about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for Nintendo Switch 2 today, including confirmation that the game will contain the entire experience on its cartridge.

This is one of the rare titles on the console to be doing this. Thus far, most third-party publishers have opted to use game-key cards. This has drawn ire from fans as they’re not truly physical – you’re basically getting a blank cartridge as the game needs to be downloaded from the internet.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - Customization & Gadgets

SEGA put out the latest Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds trailer today spotlighting the game’s customization and gadget features.

The racer will have 40+ vehicles, 70+ gadgets, and 100+ vehicle parts and decals. In all thousands of combinations will be available for players to customize the ultimate racing machine. It’s possible to mix and match racers and vehicles, vehicle parts, and gadgets to create a customized racing experience.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds SpongeBob TMNT Avatar

Following a previous leak, SEGA just announced that SpongeBob SquarePants is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds along with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar. News about the game just dropped at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

A first look at SpongeBob, along with his buddy Patrick, was shown in a trailer today. The DLC will also feature a Bikini Bottom stage to race on.

Although Nintendo Switch 2 just received a big racer in the form of Mario Kart World, SEGA believes it can can coexist with its own upcoming game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

In a recent interview, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said these two titles “are going in different directions”. He brought up how Mario Kart World is featuring an open world. Iizuka ultimately feels “the design itself is fundamentally different.”

He told VGC in the interview:

We have more information about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with news about a collector’s edition, Sonic Prime characters, and Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade path.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Minecraft

During Summer Game Fest 2025 today, SEGA shared the latest on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including various collaborations, confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 version, and a release date. It’ll be out for Nintendo Switch on September 25, 2025 with Switch 2 following later.

For collaborations, ​Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Ichiban Kasuga are joining as free post-launch content. Meanwhile, we’ll also be seeing Steve, Alex, and Creeper from Minecraft as future paid content.
