system update

It’s that time once again: a new system update for the 3DS is now available. Nintendo just started the distribution of version 11.12.0-44.

Like the past few firmware upgrades, we’re not expecting any major changes or additions here. Nintendo hasn’t made any mention of today’s update, but it should involve “improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments” – as is usually the case.

For the most part, today’s firmware update improves stability and tackles a couple of specific issues. We’ve included the full patch notes below.

Nintendo has previously said that today’s update would include support for the new SNES Switch controllers. It should also address an issue starting Fire Emblem: Three Houses if you purchased the Expansion Pass. New features include Alarm Notifications, Online Play Invites, and more.

Out of nowhere, Nintendo has released a new update for Wii U. Version 5.5.4 is now live for all system owners worldwide.

Nintendo has yet to publish any notes about today’s firmware upgrade. That being said, it likely falls in line with previous versions. That means the following: “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”.

Prior to today, Wii U’s last update was in September 2018. The system hasn’t received any notable feature additions since 2014.

Nintendo Switch

The latest system update has just gone live for Switch. Starting today, Nintendo is offering version 8.1.0.

Like the previous firmware change, this one doesn’t appear to be overly exciting on the surface level. Nintendo says the following of the update: “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

Following up on last week’s update, Nintendo has issued the latest firmware for Switch. Version 8.0.1 is out now for all users.

Unsurprisingly, today’s update isn’t as notable as the last one. Nintendo says there are “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

When Nintendo prepares a new Switch system update, it’s sometimes accompanied by a related update for the Joy-Con. That’s happened again with version 8.0.0.

It’s never clear what exactly goes into these controller update, but it’s still worth doing. Head on over to system settings, then the “Controller and Sensors” tab, and finally “Update Controllers”. You should be all set after going through the brief process.
