Take-Two Interactive

Take-Two Interactive was among a couple of third-party publishers featured in the Switch announcement video. Bethesda was given the spotlight with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, whereas Take-Two’s NBA 2K series had its own brief segment.

During Take-Two’s financial results call a short while ago, president Karl Slatoff talked commented on Switch. He noted that the company is “happy” to have worked with Nintendo on the reveal, with announcements about specific titles and information coming down the road.

Slatoff said:

“We’re happy that Take-two had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on their first look video on Nintendo Switch which was revealed last month and will launch in March 2017. While we’re not confirming any specific titles this time, we’re pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo, and support of the Nintendo Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details at a later date.”

We may hear about what Take-Two has in store for Switch during the system’s proper unveiling on January 12.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, has once again weighed in on NX. When asked about Nintendo’s upcoming hardware, Zelnick shared the following:

“We’re believers. We never want to count Nintendo out. They do it over and over and over again. So we feel pretty enthusiastic actually.”

Zelnick also commented on Nintendo’s position n the console race. On that topic, he had this to say:

“It’s not a slump, it’s intentional. They come to market, they do really well, and then they sort of exit the market for a period of time. They’ve been doing it for like 150 years, and that company has been doing the same thing… They’re really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing. They don’t mind having time in between.”

We heard similar comments from Zelnick last month, as he said Take-Two is “very interested” in NX.

Rockstar Games and 2K Games parent company Take-Two is “very interested” in NX. So says Strauss Zelnick, the company’s CEO.

While talking about the new system in an interview with TheStreet, Zelnick shared the following:

It could be very exciting. You never want to count Nintendo out. They go quiet for a while and then they come to market and do something really exciting. We are very interested and watching closely the development of what Nintendo plans to do next.

While Zelnick’s comments are encouraging, it most definitely does not guarantee support for NX. In 2011, when asked about Wii U, Zelnick did say that Take-Two was “looking at it seriously”. The following year, he mentioned that Take-Two was “skeptical” of the console. Zelnick’s latest comments are at least more favorable than what’ve we’ve heard from him regarding Nintendo in recent years.

Aside from NBA 2K13, Take-Two Interactive hasn’t produced much content for Wii U. That’s unlikely to change in the future.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick once again commented on Wii U, telling GamesIndustry:

“We haven’t talked about specific titles in development, but we’ve said our strategy is to meet consumers where they are. If they’re buying hardware, we’ll be there with software. That said, we make these really big, AAA titles that work on some platforms, but not others.”

Zelnick said in June 2012 that he was “skeptical” about Wii U when it comes to core games. Apparently, his mentality hasn’t changed much since then.
