Christ Pratt Mario movie casting

A lot has been made about Chris Pratt voicing Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. As the lead of the film, nailing that character and choosing the right actor for the role is one of the most important aspects of the whole project.

Aaron Horvath, one of the directors on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, recently explained why Pratt landed the role of Mario. He told Total Film magazine that it “made total sense” and he’s “really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart.”

Horvath’s full words:

“For us, it made total sense. He’s really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart. For the way that Mario is characterized in our film, he’s perfect for it.”

Horvath also said that Illumination “wanted to make this movie a very authentic Nintendo Super Mario experience, and be that everyman.”

Charles Martinet has been known as the voice of Mario in the games. While he isn’t voicing Mario in the film, he will have unspecified cameos.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was most recently slated to premiere on April 7, 2023. However, it was just bumped up two days earlier and will debut on April 5.
