lol the Switch pratically did the same as last week. I hope it stays like that until MK8 Deluxe comes.

    • KnightWonder

I fail to see how that’s funny. It’s good that the numbers haven’t dropped like the PS4 after its launch.

      • Stuart

Oh no,I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, it’s definitely good. Just said that I find funny how it did almost the same number exactly. It’s really good that Switch is holding up in Japan.

        • KnightWonder

Oh, well yeah it is good. It’s to be expected though, since the console marketplace in Japan has been on the decline, while the handheld/mobile markplace has been on the incline.

    • Usama Notkani

Its basically selling as much as its been shipped there. That’s probably why it is so consistent. When mk8 deluxe arrives it will probably jump to whatever Nintendo sends Japan’s way for the launch and I don’t know for how long it will keep selling 40k+ and I don’t know how well ARMS will perform but when spla2oon comes out there it will probably sell as much consoles as it did when the system launched

  • TDude73

It’s been over a month and the Nintendo Switch is STILL the best selling platform in Japan!

    • dead fanboy

Nintendo Switch sell numbers are going to increase with the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Also Minecraft Switch edition and Splatoon 2 this summer will result in further domination in Japan. It will be interesting how Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio will perform in North America and UK this upcoming holiday season with majority of its exclusives releasing from July – December and of course superior multiplat version of games over the ps4 pro. Mario Oddessy will be amazing.

  • awng781

Impressive hold for Switch, even without any big new software releases.

  • Tlink7

The usual suspects haven’t arrived yet, so let me steal their already questionable thunder:

    *ahem*
LEL SUCH FAILLLL SWITCH CANT EVEN SELL MORE THEN PREVIOUS WEEK, MIGHT AS WELL DITCH THIS OVERPRICED POOP CONSOLE NINTENDO

    …my own thoughts? I think it’s great C:

    • ForeVision

Personally, I would love to end up owning a pile of preferably 10+ Switch games to tide me over for many many hours, and if sales are anything to go by, I may get what I’m looking for.

  • Lord Ozzie

This is impressive, MK8D hasnt even come out yet and once the holidays hit, the Switch will do amazing numbers similar or even better than the 3DS. For example, during week 40 to week 47, MK7 and Super Mario 3D Land came out and it was holiday season, this was the result:

    Week 40: 120, 920
    Week 41: 205 ,962
    Week 42: 350, 321
    Week 43: 367, 691
    Week 44: 482, 200
    Week 45: 197, 952
    Week 46: 240, 819
    Week 47: 100, 688

Now imagine the sales when MK8D comes out along with Super Mario Odyssey releasing in the holidays.

    • Jacob Groves

Not just those. Splatoon 2 and ARMS says hello!!!

      • Lord Ozzie

Imagine Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter, the Switch is literally the perfect console for Japan.

    • metalpants

Does Mario Kart sell that well in Japan?

      • awng781

Yea. But not nearly as much as it sells in North America and Europe.

    • dead fanboy

Nintendo Switch will dominate Japan. More JRPGs, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft Switch edition, Splatoon 2 and the most anticipated Mario Oddessy greatness is already here. Ps4 has no games this holiday that appeal to Japanese gamers especially in exclusives it’s going to be dry for Ps4 owners.

  • Jacob Groves

Sony is in jealous cake. Hahahahahaha.

Nintendo is KING OF THE WORLD!!!

Loved Zelda: Breath of the Wild soooooooooooooo much. MK 8 Deluxe going be epic then Street Fighter game on Switch then ARMS then Splatoon 2. Awesome Switch!!!

    • TDude73

      You can say THAT again!

    • William Orlando Figueroa

Dude have you seen Xbox One’s sales? They are waaayyyyyy worse than the PS4’s.

      • hi v3.0

        I think that will continue

      • Jacob Groves

Yeah I knew it. I owned and loved Switch and PS4 mostly while XB1 is just achievements boost and online stuffs with friends. Japanese gamers already told us since original Xbox they hate Microsoft and that will continue forever.

I hope Xbox One Scorpio face same problems. πŸ˜€

        I want to see Microsoft p i s s i n g off once again in Japan. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        • Justin McQuillen

Scorpio seems posed to overtake PS4 if you were asking my prediction. Sony is gonna be toast.

  • metalpants

Good news. If the Switch does well in its home territory, it spells good things for all other regions. I’m thinking that just like Splatoon did surprisingly well in Japan, both ARMS and Splatoon 2 will give the Switch quite a noticeable boost. Japan is all about colorful, action-packed, cutesy stuff, and both of these games deliver on those fronts in spades.

Once Capcom realizes that Switch will basically take over the 3DS, they’ll bring MH over to it (while solving the all-too bothersome argument of MH on a portable vs. MH on TV) and once that happens… it’s over… the Switch will rule Japan indefinitely, forcing Square Enix, Bamco, maybe even Konami and others to bring over their world-known franchises… unless they’re too stubborn (a common trait in older Japanese generations) and remain loyal to the PlayStation brand.

This will be a very interesting and telling year.

    • Jon Turner

Don’t get your expectations that high just yet. They could still refuse to bring games to Switch no matter how it does.

      Or not.

      • metalpants

That’s why I said they might be stubborn and not really do anything. At this point I’m ready for anything. Things have been much worse (Wii U) so they can only get better, even if not by much.

  • hi v3.0

Lol every console sold less this week except for Switch

  • hi v3.0

Btw I just got my Switch yesterday πŸ˜€

    • KnightWonder

Want to add me as a friendemie?

    • ben

Welcome. You will now start to find every other gaming option annoying.
The ability to take the switch with you wherever you go is crazy.. I stopped using my pc and cant get hyped for pc games.

      • ForeVision

Don’t say that Ben, gotta keep your options open. Also, I remember you saying you were waiting for Total War: Warhammer 2? It will hit this year you know πŸ˜›

        • ben

I am waiting for that and Prey but just being honest.. I wish all my games were available on my switch.

          • ForeVision

For lack of time due to a busy life, and unable to play them I understand (though given my situation it’s hard for me to relate). But there will be times when you’ll be able to enjoy those games in-between, I’d reckon. Plus, don’t know if you own a laptop, but that’s the next best thing when it comes to convenience.

          • ben

I don’t have a gaming laptop unfortunately and they are pretty expensive.

          • ForeVision

True, but if you’re that busy, it may be a worthwhile investment. Also since you live in Japan, you may be able to tell me more about the Monster Hunter Online game for PC they have there, I think it was frontier?

          • ben

I have never tried either DQ10 or MM online.. I am a little scared to play an mmo! I think it would suck my time up.

          • ForeVision

MMO’s are time-sinks, that’s a fact. But MH’s (as a series) gameplay is so good (imho) that it never feels like a grind, and that’s what I love about the series.

          • ben

I have never played monhun. I do have a copy for my wii u but I bought it when my Japanese was not as good as it is now and it was a hard game to start.

          • ForeVision

If you like a game with very, as they call it, “meaty” combat and difficult, yet fair bosses then you should definitely give it a shot. Last I checked XX on 3DS has a demo if you have one of those (though I would argue the better experience is on console, but that’s my simply my opinion)

          • ben

I have over 600 hours in the Darksouls trilogy on PC. So I would love it.. I am going to wait for the Switch version though. I feel bad for my 3ds because I like the system but every morning I throw the switch in my bag for work.

          • ForeVision

I do hope your bag has cushions? Otherwise the Switch might start acting oddly in the long term πŸ˜› But yes, I can see why you’d personally prefer Switch over 3DS.

  • heavenshitman1

Looks like Switch is genuinely treadding pretty heavy on Sony’s sales turf. If Switch holds this up maybe Sony need to start concerning about its new competitor globally (plus with Scorpio around the bend), PS4s sales climaxes may be ready to end. PS4 won’t likely achieve PS2 status as a result, maybe another PS3

    • hi v3.0

PS4 is well likely to achieve PS2 status, if not then it will be close

      • Wanderlei

It is very far behind ps1, ps2 and ps3. On this weeks numbers it would take 15 years to reach ps2.

        • awng781

PS4 is actually tracking fairly close yo yhe PS3 in Japan. The PS3 sold around 9.5 million LTD in Japan. I expect the PS4 to reach 8-8.5 million.

          Of course, that’s a farcry from the PS1 (19 million), PS2 (22 million), and PSP (20 million)

          • ben

It does not have the legs the ps3 had.

          • awng781

Right now, PS4 is tracking almost identically with the PS3. We’ll see by the end of this year if it can truly match the PS3’s legs.

          • Justin McQuillen

I thought the PS3 didn’t sell that well? Or was that different in Japan?

          • ben

The numbers were already tracking down since the turn of the year. It had a good 2016 but since then the numbers have been slowly declining and the PS3 had serious price cuts later than the ps4. I cant see the ps4 dropping below 30,000 yen in Japan… because 1. the ps3 only ever dropped to 26,000. A VITA and a 3ds are still 20,000… I can see the Switch dropping to 25, 000 at some point but not yet.

          • Wanderlei

Yeah depends if gets back its previous sales or current down turn continues or even worsens. The ps4 pro doing poor has not helped its cause. I think Sony would have planned for that to take up slack and even increase over-all sales but its barely made a dent.

          • awng781

PS4 Pro was never going to make a huge impact to begin with. It’s a product for hardcore Sony fanboys, and that’s it. This applies to the west as well.

In 2016, the PS4 managed to sell around 1.7-1.8 million in Japan, with the release of major games like Dark Souls 3, Persona 5, and FFXV, as well as two new hardware models (PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro) and PS VR. It will be interesting to see how well 2017 fares.

      • heavenshitman1

Hmm, maybe, I’d still call that optimistic. I read an article some while ago suggesting that this gen, that achievement would be virtually impossible. Sony got a little bit lucky this gen with both Nintendo and M’soft fumbling somewhat, but competitions getting fierce again (on all fronts) and technology is just moving so fast, I’d question whether PS4 will remain relevant long enough to go near 150mil sales

  • Apfel

Microsoft should be worried. XB1 sold 15% less consoles.

  • 9+10=21

Rio Xbox, I wonder what the Scotia will do thugh- it looks like a real monster of a console

  • TheJuiciest

I’m still surprised it keeps selling as well as it is in Japan this early. Gonna be selling like mad once stuff like Splatoon, Animal Crossing, etc. hit.

    • R.Z.

Or exactly the same if they don’t manage to increase production by then.
      πŸ˜›

    • Justin McQuillen

There is no stopping Switch. Wait until they announce stuff at E3. Sony basically should just give up now.

  • it actually gained on last week, impressive

  • nekoknight

    Japanese sales to date:
    PS Vita (released 12.17.2011): 5,242,890
    New 3DS (released 10.11.2014): 5,148,234
    PS4 (released 02.22.2014): 4,603,029*
    Wii U (released 12.08.2012): 3,231,355
    SWITCH (released 03.03.2017): 651,879
    2DS (released 02.27.2016): 392,300
    *includes Pro sales

  • R.Z.

That Nintendo can’t manage to ship enough consoles to satisfy demand makes it hard to really gauge the console’s sales potential.
I wonder how many more weeks they can have hitting that glass ceiling.

    • Justin McQuillen

I think it will last through 2018 into 2019, and that’s a conservative estimate. I say this because they have barely dipped into the games they are gonna be releasing on the platform, and barely have even revealed anything. E3 is gonna be real. 1 Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, or Pokemon game and it’s as good as done that Switch will be the highest selling game platform of all time.

      • R.Z.

        Let’s hope so.

  • Stuart

BTW people were saying that in the charts next week maybe we will indeed see a drop since it’s the week before the Golden Week in Japan. It also make sense that Nintendo will hold until the Golden Week starts to make an actual massive restock. In case we see a drop on Switch next week do not go all “Switch is doomed” mode, this is to be expected.

  • Justin McQuillen

Expect this to last through 2018 at least

  • Luiz
