“A lot of the so-called ‘action games’ are not made that way. All the time, players are forced to do their utmost. If they are challenged to the limit, is it really fun for them?” – Shigeru Miyamoto

What’s funny is that I was JUST talking about this sort of thing in my Black Ops Wii review (which will go up this weekend). There’s no pacing in it, and it’s all a crazy non-stop bulletslinger from beginning to almost the end of the game. If you’re always pushing someone to their limit and making things as hectic as possible, there’s no pacing or time to enjoy what’s going on in the game around you. It’s all work and no play, really!

“It’s about enjoying something. I used to draw cartoons. I’d just show them to some of my friends, expecting that they were going to appreciate them, that they were going to enjoy reading them. And I haven’t changed a bit about that. When I’m making video games today, I want people to be entertained. I am always thinking, How are people going to enjoy playing the games we are making today? And as long as I can enjoy something other people can enjoy it, too.”

“Ikenie no Yoru”, (English: “Night of the Sacrifice”) a Wii-exclusive horror game upcoming from Marvelous Entertainment, was featured in Famitsu this past week, and it was revealed that the game would be using the Wii Balance Board as part of its gameplay.

In addition, the Wiimote is used to control a flashlight (something countless Wii games have used in the past), and the story follows 5 college students who have wandered into an old sacrificial building on a spooky night.

Edit: I’m not gonna lie; I was sort of going to brush this one off, but the screens actually look pretty creepy!

Award-Winning Video Game Features Cast of Classic Characters, Innovative Paint and Thinner Gameplay, Progressive “Playstyle Matters” Approach and Launches Today with an Epic Star-Studded Event in Times Square

BURBANK, Calif. – (November 30, 2010) – Disney Interactive Studios today announced that critically acclaimed Disney Epic Mickey exclusively for Wii™ is now available at retail stores across North America. Disney Epic Mickey ushers in an innovative approach to gameplay as players assume the role of the iconic Mickey Mouse and are given the power to wield paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world while determining Mickey’s path to becoming an epic hero. The Disney Epic Mickey launch is being celebrated today at the Disney Store in Times Square from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET, where fans will have the opportunity to be the first to purchase copies of the game, meet game designer Warren Spector and celebrity guests, receive collectible custom sketch drawings from the video game artists and much more.

First previewed in June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), North America’s most prominent video game showcase, the game captured more than 25 awards, including “Best Action/Adventure Game” from USAToday.com and “Best Wii Game” and “Best Action/Adventure Game” from IGN.com.

In a move that isn’t all too surprising, SEGA has opted to wipe the leaderboards of Sonic 4 due to rampant cheating in the game. Cheaters would hack the game to show impossible run-times in levels that couldn’t be beat, which completely ruins the fun of the game for everyone else trying to play.

Cheating seems to be making a comeback in the last few years, with Wii games getting hit especially hard due to their easy-to-hack online structure. Hopefully we’ll see some decency in the gaming community soon, but until then we just have to deal with it it seems.

GoldenEye 007 review

Posted on 13 years ago by (@NE_Austin) in Reviews, Wii | 5 Comments

Game Info:

System: Nintendo Wii
Category: First-person shooter
Players: 4 player split-screen, 8 player online
Developer: Eurocom
Publisher: Activision

I’m in a rather unique position as a reviewer of Goldeneye right now: I’ve never actually had the joy of experiencing the single player campaign of the original 1997 title, and I certainly never saw the 1995 movie that goes along with it. Because of that, I feel like I almost have a special perspective on this re-imagining of that classic N64 title that not many people get, but playing through this game has convinced me that perhaps I should go back and give the original game a shot, if only to understand where this sequel came from and what has changed since then.

Coming from PCGameWorld:

the Consumer Electronics Association, which plans the conference, now says that it erroneously included Nintendo of America among companies exhibiting as part of the gaming showcase at the conference. Nintendo will take meeting rooms at the conference but won’t exhibit, CEA said in a press release issued Tuesday.”

Well… THAT’S a pretty big mistake! Looks like we will not see a conference or exhibition from Nintendo at CES this yea, which is really too bad considering how much we could have seen about the 3DS at the event!
