This information comes from Satoru Iwata…

“It became difficult for developers to surprise customers with the current Wii.”

Surprises have always been a big deal for Nintendo. This makes me wonder what surprises they have in store for Project Cafe.

There’s one thing we know about Project Cafe’s release date for sure: it won’t be released in the early part of 2012. Satoru Iwata confirmed that Nintendo will not release Project Cafe until after April of next year. Some rumors have said that the console could ship in mid-October, though the company may very well wait until November. Then again, perhaps Nintendo will surprise everyone and launch the system in the summer.

A couple of additional quotes have been picked up from a Nintendo news conference held in Japan earlier today. President Satoru Iwata commented on the console in general, explaining that “We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles.”

Iwata also seemed to address the topic of 3D gaming. Although 3D is a very significant element of Nintendo’s latest handheld sensation, it doesn’t sound like Nintendo will be implementing such a feature for Project Cafe. Iwata noted that “It’s difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven’t obtained wide acceptance yet.” This is something that Nintendo has pointed out previously, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
