General Nintendo

A LinkedIn profile confirms speculation that Star Beast is coming to Wii U. It seems that the game is being made for the system’s eShop.

Also rumored is that Nintendo is looking to attract mobile developers. Further information on this isn’t available.

We don’t actually have any details about Star Beast yet. What we do know is that the game is also in development for the PC and mobile devices.

Famitsu was on a brief hiatus this week, but it’ll be returning next week with a “surprise scoop”. That’s according to a new tease posted on the publication’s Twitter account today.

The magazine didn’t share any clues when talking about its mysterious scoop. We don’t know who’s developing the project, which genre it falls into, or any other details. But now that this year’s Tokyo Game Show is just a month away, publishers may begin to announce some of their projects making debuts at the show.

Famitsu’s next edition will be published on August 23. Although, as usual, its contents should leak out on Tuesday.

This comes from an interview I did with those cool guys at n-Space. I asked them what else might be brewing (as is mandatory if you are interviewing someone!) and they replied with this:

“Just keep your eyes on the official n-Space Facebook page and you’re sure to see a surprise sooner rather than later.” – n-Space’s invisible collective of answering interview questions

There’s truly lots of other really awesome information in the interview (SW:Battlefront talk, Heroes of Ruin tidbits, development process details, etc), but you’ll have to wait until later tonight for me to properly type it up! This, however, I felt was worth posting independently.

Thanks in part due to Amazon’s pre-order deal, The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia has found itself at the top of the retailer’s best-selling books chart.

You can pre-order Hyrule Historia here. It won’t be available until the end of January 2013, but ordering the hardcover art book now will save you a few bucks.

A unique opportunity was presented with the western press a few days ago. Satoru Iwata stopped by Nintendo of America’s offices in Redwood City as New Super Mario Bros. 2 approaches its launch in the states.

Aside from Iwata giving some hope regarding the overseas status of EarthBound/Mother, he mostly talked about the Mario franchise. He discussed the innate appeal of Mario’s side-scrollers, explained how New Super Mario Bros. 2 and U will be different games, Nintendo’s stance on downloadable content, and more.

Head past the break for Iwata’s comments.

The image above comes from the Club Nintendo homepage, which you can see once you’ve logged in. The keyword in the image above is “currently”. Hopefully that means Nintendo will receive another batch of gold nunchucks soon, and it’ll be added back in as a reward on Club Nintendo.

There have been a large contingent of Mother/EarthBound fans who have vocal about Nintendo localizing the series’ games. North America did receive EarthBound, but Mother 3 was left in Japan.

Surprisingly, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently gave a bit of hope that the franchise could have a future overseas.

Take a look at this conversation between Kotaku and Satoru Iwata:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Jim Ryan feels that the 3DS and Vita are “very different propositions”. At the same time, however, Ryan said that the two portables could see “some collision” as Vita starts to “skew to a younger demographic”.

Ryan told CVG:

“I think the gaming offerings [of 3DS and Vita] are so different right now that I think there’s plenty of space for both systems to live side by side quite happily. …I think over time that the PlayStation Vita will – like all consoles to – skew to a younger demographic, so there will be some collision there.”

Ryan also noted that Nintendo “is always a competitor”.

Amazon has a pretty decent pre-order price for The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia. You can pre-order the art book for $20.99 (and about $4 shipping). It’ll be sold for $34.99 at most retailers, so you will be saving quite a bit.

If interested, you can pre-order Hyrule Historia here.

Metroid: Other M was a very unique collaboration for Nintendo. Never before had the company worked with an outside studio for a new entry in one of its major franchises.

Although the title saw a mixed reception, Team Ninja studio head Yosuke Hayashi does have interest in working on another Metroid project with Yoshio Sakamoto.

Hayashi said:

“Unfortunately Metroid is kind of out of our league as it’s Nintendo’s game, but we’re still in close touch with co-creator Sakamoto-san, so we want to do something with him moving forward definitely. It really depends on what he wants to do with the game first.”
