General Nintendo

Lost Levels seems to have gotten their hands on a rare, early prototype version of The Legend of Zelda. Quite a number of changes that have been discovered relate to the game’s difficulty. For instance, in the prototype, less enemies appear on screen and often weren’t as challenging compared to the foes you encounter in the final version. Other changes include differences in music, sprite design, level design, and more. You can check out the full list here. Also, you can download the .fds image here as well as the NSF here.

It looks like this may be the end of Nintendo’s super play videos for the Mario series…

Thanks to Chestah for the tip!

So… Nintendo is making the next Okami game?! Ah, just kidding! That is a pretty interesting trademark, though…

Mario and coins essentially go hand in hand. Although one can argue that they aren’t the most crucial element to the series, the games certainly wouldn’t be the same without them. So, could you imagine coins being replaced with fruit?

Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that this was considered for Super Mario Bros. He explained in a recent edition of Iwata Asks that, although he believed fruit would have been a fine choice, players might run away from the fruit as a result of confusion. I suppose this makes sense, as a coin is an object that gamers would be more interested in collecting.

“Thus, when we were thinking about something that anybody would look at and go ‘I definitely want that!’, we thought, ‘Yep, it’s gotta be money.'”

Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft is starting to make a new game. The company just opened a page on their website which states that workers are needed. Monolith is looking to fill positions such as programmer, 2D designer, planner, effect designer, 3DCG designer and motion designer.

Although it’s true that Monolith Soft has created a number of titles for Nintendo in recent years, it’s possible that this new game is for a different publisher. The developer has worked on a couple of Super Robot Taisen projects as well as Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans for Namco Bandai. It should be awhile before we receive concrete details about the game, but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.

For 120 coins, you can order a red or blue suede pouche, which you can see above. According to Nintendo, you can place your Wiimote in the pouche, as well as your DS or 3DS (when it comes out, that is…). The red one turns “warm grey” while the blue one turns “cool gray.” In other words, the pouches are reversible.
