Intelligent Systems has picked up the Japanese trademarks “Fire Emblem” and “Emblem”, sparking speculation that the filings are related to a new entry in the long-running franchise.

The two names were filed on June 24. Today, both were successfully registered.

It’s worth noting that the two trademarks aren’t for a renewal. None of Nintendo/Intelligent Systems’ older items will be expiring in the near future.

THQ continues to drift into the abyss. The company was approved for liquidation by the US bankruptcy court yesterday, all but signaling its end. This could be one of the last times that a significant piece of news surrounding THQ emerges. Other than settling the remains of THQ’s cash stemming from asset auctions, there isn’t much left of the former publishing giant.

Here’s something unexpected: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies will be an M-rated game. Believe it.

New gameplay videos released by Capcom today confirm the news. In Europe, Dual Destinies will carry an age 16 rating.

Michel Ancel has been heading up the Rayman franchise for a very, very long time. But in the future, he may consider stepping back.

Ancel told VideoGamer:

“I’ve made the Rayman world so that we do things that the fans would make us want to do. We are led by the fans and we try to have a world where it’s not about realism. If it’s a funny idea, let’s do it. I don’t say I want to work on Rayman forever, but now it’s on a good way to continue by itself.”

“It’s fun to move from a more realistic and constrained world to [Rayman’s] kind of world. Both are interesting. Working within the constraints [is] also very interesting because it’s creating something new. So I like the idea of moving from different types of games.”

We’ve pretty much outlined all of the important aspects of Capcom’s presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con – including the mysterious “surprise” – but the company has now sent out an official overview covering its plans for the expo. You can find it below.

Nintendo has registered two trademarks that may have some sort of ties to Seaman. “Mysterious Pet: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face” and “Mysterious Partner: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face” were recently registered by the company in Japan.

Seaman creator Yoot Saito hinted to Nikkei at one point that he could be working on a Seaman-related project. These two trademarks do sound like they’re related to the franchise in a way, perhaps as a spiritual successor…

Shin’en is probably best known for its contributions in the shoot ’em up space thanks to its work on the Iridion, Nanostray, and Nano Assault games. But the studio also has experience in the racing genre having created FAST – Racing League for WiiWare.

Some fans have wondered about the possibility of Shin’en developing a new F-Zero for Wii U based on the company’s pedigree as a Nintendo developer and efforts on FAST. If Nintendo were to approach Shin’en about creating a new entry in the classic racing series, however, the studio would likely decline. That’s because they “feel like having first to achieve our own legendary games.”
