Despite the fact that we just received the first screenshots of 3D Classics: Kid Icarus, it’s already available for download in Japan. Those who participate in the “Chotto Mario na Nintendo 3DS Present Campaign” (A Little Mario-like Nintendo 3DS Present Campaign) can receive the title for free. Simply register a couple of games at Club Nintendo to obtain Kid Icarus. You’ll also be entered in a drawing to win one of three special Mario-themed 3DS systems.

Nintendo is running a similar event in Europe. You can find more information about that here.

3D Classics: Kid Icarus will go live for everyone on January 18. 3DS owners who aren’t interested in joining the campaign can purchase it for 600 yen.

Nintendo is now taking pre-orders for Xenoblade Chronicles on their official website. The game will be sold only through Nintendo and GameStop.

We’ve got a ways to go before Xenoblade is ready, but you might as well put down some money for the game if you have even a tiny bit of interest in it. Believe me, it’s absolutely fantastic.

You can pre-order Xenoblade Chronicles here.

As expected, Nintendo won’t have anything new to show for Wii U at CES 2012. As was the case with the 3DS earlier this year, the system will be shown behind closed doors to media members who missed out on experiencing the console at E3. The company will not have a booth at CES.

Nintendo said in a statement:

“Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo. However, Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo. Production and development efforts remain on track for the Wii U launch, which will take place between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012.”

We’ve known for some time that Wii U will see a proper information blowout at E3 2012. Maybe we’ll get a nugget or two during GDC, but there’s a good chance that Nintendo will remain quiet until June.
