Iwata: Skyward Sword to “explore a new horizon in action RPGs”

“Our development team at Nintendo has been working on the new ‘Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’ game with the aim to explore a new horizon in action RPGs by fully taking advantage of Wii MotionPlus. We are making preparations in order to launch this software next year.”
That quote sounds rather interesting. Of course, we know that Skyward Sword is supposed to be pretty different compared to past Zelda titles. Up to this point, we haven’t seen enough of the game to notice any huge changes aside from Wii MotionPlus support, though we should know more sometime in the next few months.

Iwata comments on the 3DS’ price

The fact that the 3DS will cost 25,000 yen in Japan hasn’t exactly garnered the best reaction. A number of folks believe this means that the handheld will be $250 in the U.S., or maybe even $300. During an analysts meeting, Satoru Iwata commented on the 3DS’ price. When a person suggested that 25,000 yen might be a bit too much, Iwata said that Nintendo considered a number of factors when determining how much it would cost, including the company taking into account the reception of the portable at E3. I guess that means Nintendo saw a very strong interest in the system, therefore fans wouldn’t mind paying a high price for it!

“At first we thought it would be desirable to launch the 3DS within the year, so we made our forecasts on that basis. At this point it is clear that if we launch within the year, we will not be able to supply enough units.”
I was honestly shocked when Iwata stated that the 3DS wouldn’t be releasing in any territory this year. I was skeptical of a NA/European launch for 2010, but I was almost certain it would at least be out in Japan around November. It will feel strange not having the 3DS around for the holiday season, but at least more units will be available when the system launches and more developers have time to work on their projects.
