Hidden music in Mario Kart 64

This is pretty neat and something that most Nintendo fans probably aren’t aware of. There’s a small music nugget that comes from the results screen in Mario Kart 64. After about fifty minutes, a different type of loop will play for a minute and a half or so. After that, the music will return to normal. Take a look at the video below to see for yourself!
Why Nintendo would change up the music after fifty minutes is beyond me. But this a nice little secret that Nintendo fans may appreciate!

Bitmob conducted the following interview with Nintendo of America’s localization producer Nate Bihldorff…
Bitmob: Why Samus? Relatively few Nintendo characters are made to be “real.” You don’t hear Link talking about Ganondorf or Mario wondering what Bowser is up to…yet you hear Samus talking about the Mother Brain, Ridley….
Nate Bihldorff: I don’t think it’s a matter of the folks at NCL [Nintendo Co., Ltd., the Japanese headquarters] going into a room, looking at a dartboard of all their major properties and saying, “That one! That’s the one we’re going to grow!”
It’s more that there’s always been in [Super Metroid director Yoshio] Sakamoto-san’s head a big story and a big background for Samus. You can take a look at some of the manga, which isn’t necessarily related to the games, but there’s clearly more story to Samus than has ever been shown in the games.
I think it’s very appropriate in this case. I think Samus, more than anyone else, is someone whose story we’ve always wondered about, whereas, for various reasons, you don’t really wonder about Mario’s past all that much. And with Link, there have been so many Links over the years, you can get lost looking at all those.
“Zaxxon” heading to Wii

Never heard of Zaxxon? I can’t blame you. While this SEGA arcade game may be considered a classic by many, unless you went to arcades frequently you probably haven’t played it. Regardless, the game has been rated by the ESRB for Wii which hints that it will be heading to the Virtual Console service.
New patent hints at DS cartridge redesign?

A new patent seems to have popped up that hints at a new style of DS cartridge, one that extends beyond the size of the current cartridge. No word on whether this is ever going to see the light of day, and knowing Nintendo it’s very possible that we’ll never hear anything about it again, but it definitely looks interesting!
