Rumored last week, the black 3DS XL is indeed coming to North America. The new system variation is expected to arrive on August 11.

You can find the official announcement below.

Nintendo has gone ahead and opened an official announcement community on Miiverse for the Earthbound series. It’s home to the “official source for the latest EarthBound news and information.”

This naturally begs the question: what kind of news could Nintendo have in store for EarthBound?

You can visit the community here.

News of a brand new title coming from Shigeru Miyamoto first appeared during an interview with Famitsu. Miyamoto has now mentioned the project for a second time, which is “actually getting busier lately.”

Of the new title, Miyamoto said the following in an interview with Nielsthooft:

“I happen to be working on a completely new game even now. The project is actually getting busier lately.”

You can find Miyamoto’s full interview with Nielsthooft here.

Nintendo has re-upped the Eternal Darkness trademark in the US through the USPTO.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has played around with GameCube game’s trademark. Extensions have been filed before, but this new trademark is noteworthy since it includes “downloadable electronic game programs” and “downloadable electronic game software.”

Nintendo hasn’t announced GameCube support for the Wii U Virtual Console, so a re-release on the eShop isn’t too likely at the moment. But maybe it will happen one day…

In previous interviews, Masahiro Sakurai has said that the new Smash Bros. game will not include “a similar story mode” to Brawl. Of course, Sakurai was referring to the Subspace Emissary.

Now it would seem that there won’t be any sort of story mode, based on a new translation from Famitsu.

Sakurai reiterated in a new bi-weekly column this week his disappointment in seeing players upload the Subspace Emissary’s cutscenes online, which ruined the surprise in one sense. This time around, the team has concentrated on making videos for the new characters. For these clips, they’re making them so that it may be beneficial to share them with others.

“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

Later in the column, Sakurai did mention one new, mysterious addition for the 3DS version, which will “act as a separate mode from the standard versus play.”

And Sakurai reconfirmed a couple of previous details: the Wii U and 3DS versions will include different stages, and there will be customization elements. Customization will impact character performance and this data can be exchanged between the two versions.

Capcom is preparing a variety of downloadable content for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies.

First, Japanese players will be able to pick up the Costume Pack for free until August 15.

Capcom will also release the Turnabout Quiz Deduction series. Each episode requires you to piece together happenings at the Wright Anything Agency. The prologue section from Turnabout Quiz Deduction will be unlocked after players complete the game. New DLC will be released weekly between August 1 and August 15 for 150 yen each.

Lastly, sometime in the future, Capcom will send out a brand new case known as “Turnabout Return”. The DLC takes place right after Phoenix regains his badge. Aquarium entertainer Shouko Umino hires Phoenix to defend her partner, the orca Ale, against a murder charge.

Update: A translation posted on NeoGAF indicates that multiple missions/maps are likely to be involved, as opposed to just one of each. The translation also seems to suggest that Nintendo is “thinking” about DLC as opposed to “developing” it. But because Shigeru Miyamoto mentions that the team would like to deliver new content through the Internet “little by little”, I think it’s safe to say that DLC is coming.

Nintendo is working on new content for Pikmin 3. In an interview with Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun, it was revealed that a new map and mission are scheduled for delivery in the future.

When these items will be available are not yet known. It’s also unclear if the DLC will be available for free or for a certain cost.
