3DS eShop

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re an avid Nintendo fan – or a gaming fan, at the very least. That likely means you try watching the Nintendo Direct presentations live. Or perhaps you view them on YouTube a few hours later.

Not everyone operates this way. In fact, Satoru Iwata revealed during today’s investors meeting that more and more consumers are viewing the Nintendo Direct broadcasts through the eShop.

Iwata noted, “It is no exaggeration to say that the most preferred viewing option has now become the Nintendo eShop, and it is not uncommon to find that approximately 60 to 70 percent of total views come from the Nintendo eShop.” Iwata additionally stated that with recent shows, “it became common to see total views for a single video reach five hundred to six hundred thousand in a matter of about 10 days on the Nintendo eShop while they did not show apparent growth on YouTube”.

Summer Carnival ’92 Recca originally launched for the Famicom over two decades ago. And late last year, the game hit the Japanese 3DS eShop. Could Summer Carnival ’92 Recca now be coming to the North American and European eShops, too?

The OFLC has added in an entry for Summer Carnival ’92 Recca. These kinds of ratings usually imply future western VC releases, which may be the case here.

WayForward was first said to be pursuing a 3DS Virtual Console release of Shantae almost two years ago. In August of last year, the studio reconfirmed the game for release on the service.

We’re now in April, and Shantae still hasn’t appeared on the eShop. But it’s coming… still.

WayForward’s Matt Bozon (not to be confused with the former IGN Nintendo editor Mark Bozon) wrote on Twitter that Shantae is now expected between mid-June and early July. Let’s hope the Game Boy Color finally finally arrives within the next few months!

Image & Form is bringing the intriguing-looking 3DS game SteamWorld Dig to the 3DS eShop. Thus far, the studio has had a very positive experience working with Nintendo, according to CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson.

Speaking with Cubed3, Sigurgeirsson said:

“Working with Nintendo on SteamWorld Dig has been very nice so far. They promptly answer our questions, and are both very professional and personal. I do think they’ve evolved, and their tools and processes are easier to work with. Obviously we are also better at asking for their help than before. When we made SteamWorld Tower Defense, we were very aware of the huge difference between tiny Image & Form and enormous Nintendo. But they’re naturally friendly people who do all they can to help.”

Could SteamWorld Dig make its way to the Wii U eShop as well? Sigurgeirsson seems to think that it could work:

“Well, the step is not that huge. Both consoles are D-pad-friendly, and Nintendo is taking measures to make it easier to port 3DS titles to Nintendo Wii U.”
