Update: Added more details gathered from the official site. There’s even more footage there!

Nintendo has published a new Iwata Asks with Game Freak about the development of Rhythm Hunter Harmo Knight. The entire discussion is only in Japanese for now, but a few tidbits have been translated.

Read on below for details regarding the project’s initial development, how it started out as a DS title, and more.

– Idea came from Game Freaky employee James Turner
– He’s a 3D graphic artist and designer for the Vanilux-line and Vullaby
– Original idea was created about 1.5 years ago
– Pokemon game director Junichi Masuda is producing
– Masuda made note of how it’s difficult to start work on non-Pokemon projects at Game Freak since they tend to focus on Pokemon titles
– Was originally a side-scrolling game for the DS
– The team spent the first six months with this concept
– Originally had one playable character
– Now has three playable characters to add tot he variety
– Thought hard about including Pokemon music as it may break immersion
– Playable characters: Tempo, Laila, Jinbei & Symbi (Monkey)
– Master Woodwin is training Tempo
– Tempo goes on an adventure to find the Harmo Night to save Harmonia from danger
– Laila uses her harp like a bow and arrow to shoot far off enemies
– She’s a female warrior of Harmonia
– Jinbei & Symbi work together to defeat enemies
– Master Woodwin is a master warrior who has saved Harmonia before
– Tappy: tap dancing rabbit who joins Tempo on his journey
– Noizido are enemy aliens who have come to destory the harmony of Harmonia using noise
– Tempo and Tappy head to the Royal Kingdom of Symphonia to deliver the Legendary Wand
– This wand can rid Harmonia of Noise, to a HarmoKnight, who are the only ones capable of using the wand

Square Enix officially announced The World Ends with You: Solo Remix a couple of days ago. For fans of the series, the news came as a bit of a disappointment since there were high hopes for a brand new entry rather than a port/remake.

Director Tatsuya Kando was interviewed by Famitsu this week and apologized to those who have been waiting for “new developments” regarding The World Ends with You. He also teased that there are “a variety of other things” in the works.

He said:

“For those who were waiting for new developments for TWEWY, sorry to have kept you waiting. Solo Remix is a game with such a high level of completion that you won’t feel that it’s a port. If you play it and post Tweets to Twitter, the world will expand even further. We’re working on a variety of other things, but first please enjoy Solo Remix.”

So… does that mean we can expect a brand new The World Ends with You title in the future? Nah… let’s not go there – best not to create any hype!

Nintendo has announced its lineup for PAX Prime 2012. Not only will the Wii U be playable, but the eShop game Fluidity: Spin Cycle will make its debut at the show.

The Big N’s full lineup is posted below, along with more information.

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)– This year’s PAX Prime event will be action-packed, thanks to special game sampling opportunities and activities from Nintendo. Taking place Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 at Seattle’s Washington State Convention Center, the show will offer attendees the opportunity to play the groundbreaking Wii U™ system and several upcoming games, including Pikmin™ 3, ZombiU™ and New Super Mario Bros.™ U. The Wii U console launches this holiday season and introduces the Wii U GamePad, a controller with a 6.2-inch touch screen that redefines how people interact with their games, their entertainment and one another. The Nintendo booth (#462) will be the site of hands-on Wii U game demos, giving fans an early chance to check out the system’s unique integrated second-screen gaming experiences.

PAX Prime attendees can also visit the Nintendo Gaming Lounge on levels 2 and 3 of the North Galleria to experience unreleased games for the Nintendo 3DS™ and Nintendo DS™ hand-held systems and a special Kirby™ game collection for the Wii™ console. All Nintendo 3DS software will be playable on the new Nintendo 3DS XL, which features 90 percent larger screens compared to Nintendo 3DS. Fans of the Kirby, Paper Mario™ and Kid Icarus™ series will enjoy one-of-a-kind opportunities to celebrate these extraordinary franchises, and the Nintendo Gaming Lounge will include a special Pokémon™ area, where fans can gather to battle and trade with other Pokémon Trainers.
