Wii U eShop

After many years of development, Fez finally came out on the Xbox Live Arcade earlier this year. But developer Polytron isn’t stopping with just one release. According to creator Phil Fish, Fez will be ported to new platforms in 2013.

Fish wrote on the Polytron website today:

2013 is going to be an interesting one, too.

For one, FEZ will finally be ported to other platforms.

Yes, i’ve heard you, dozens of people emailing me everyday telling me how much of an idiot i am for not porting FEZ to everything.

Fish didn’t give any hints as to which systems Fez will land on. Surely though, platforms such as the Wii U eShop are among the realistic possibilities.

Given that Zen Pinball 2 didn’t land on the Wii U eShop on Thursday, there was no way it’d be released this month. So when will it launch, then?

Developer Zen Studios told one fan on Twitter that the game will be released in January. Let’s just hope there aren’t any further delays.

Last week, Notion Games said Nintendo invited the studio to bring Super Ubi Land to Wii U. This is something Notion is interested in, but it’ll need a little help first.

Notion will launch a Kickstarter next month in hopes of raising some money for a couple of Wii U eShop games – the previously mentioned Super Ubi Land and the 2D beat-em-up Team Notion. The Wii U-specific fundraiser will be kept low so that the goal will actually be attainable.

Remember how Zen Pinball 2 was supposed to arrive on the Wii U eShop this month? Well, today’s the last “Nintendo Download” of December, and the game won’t be out in either North America and Europe.

So where is the game? Nintendo of Europe’s site actually lists a December 27 release – which would be today – but it doesn’t look like it’ll be ready for prime time.

Maybe next month…

Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, plays a role in Runner 2. That’s great and all, but why did developer Gaijin Games decide to bring him on board?

Founder Alex Neuse explained:

“We wanted to get Charles because obviously he’s recognizable. We like him, he’s funny, and silly, and great, and awesome. We wanted to have a whimsical character voice that’s reminiscent of old cartoons. You remember those old Looney Tunes when they would do ‘the car of the future!’ …I think that Mike [Roush, Gaijin Games co-founder] and I were both really excited about it, because our games have been on Nintendo platforms and it kind of felt like … it’s a home, the Nintendo stuff, and he’s part of that home, even though he was living in another room until now.”

Martinet plays himself in the game, rather than another character. Neuse talked about this decision:

“We wanted him to be ‘Charles Martinet’ and not just some no-name narrator for a few reasons. Primarily, because we loved Seaman. Do you remember when Leonard Nimoy introduced Seaman? I liked Seaman a lot and I thought the whole game was fun, but I thought that was almost the funnest part of the game. It was so out there.”

Martinet’s work pertains to narration of cut-scenes, interstitial videos, and fake product placements that appear during the beginning of Runner 2. Some of the ads were born out of input from Martinet himself. You can watch one of the ads – titled “Burger Mouth – in the video above.
