Skyward Sword texture pack in the works for Twilight Princess
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Game Night, News, Podcast Stories, Wii | 0 comments
Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword possess very different art styles. Whereas Twilight Princess is rather dark and brown to fit the atmosphere, you could say that Skyward Sword is much more colorful.
One passionate fan has come up with an intriguing mix of the two games. GBAtemp member “disbala” is working on a Twilight Princess texture pack (requires Dolphin) that incorporates the style of Skyward Sword.
While not complete, you can already see how noticeably different Twilight Princess looks with Skyward Sword’s style. You can find a few example shots above.
Thanks to Yono for the tip.
Capcom has no plans to re-release Tatsunoko vs. Capcom digitally

You know what would be neat? If Wii games were available through the Wii U eShop. Like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, maybe.
But there isn’t a way to grab digital Wii games in any form – meaning that a digital re-release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is out of the question.
Even if it were possible, the previous agreement would need to be amended or a new one would need to be created, according to Capcom’s Christian Svensson who commented on the situation a couple of months ago:
“There’s no plans I’m aware of and as you point it, it would mean Capcom Japan amending the prior agreement or creating a new one as well as potentially new development, unless Nintendo at some point has plans to release Wii ISOs digitally (which I’m not aware of happening).”
A quick glance at Amazon shows that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is available at retail for around $25. If you haven’t already purchased the game, that’s not a bad price!
Neuro-technology professor says Nintendo didn’t know “what to do” with the Vitality Sensor

– Neuro-technology Professor Roger Quy
I’m not entirely sure I’d agree with Quy on this one. I think he’s right that only measuring heart-rate isn’t terribly useful, but I’d imagine that many people would have also said that only measuring weight distribution wouldn’t be very useful for a fitness game, and look at well Wii Fit did! I think the real issue is that Nintendo was deciding exactly where to go with Wii and DS, the Wii U was conceptualizing at that time, and bigger fish needed to be fried. They probably just decided it wasn’t worth the effort to put out another peripheral.
Video: “Creating Disney Infinity: The Toy Box”

Disney Infinity is only similar to Skylanders in that they both have figurines, according to the game’s producer

“And then of course the Toy Box mode is more Minecraft-meets-LittleBigPlanet. It’s something totally different where we allow kids to use their imagination and take our brands to build whatever they want.”
– Disney Interative executive producer John Vignocchi
This is the first I’m hearing about a “Minecraft-meets-LittleBigPlanet” mode, which actually sounds like it could be extremely neat, especially for younger kids. Regarding the similarities to Skylanders, I believe Vignocchi. It doesn’t seem like the two will be especially comparable in terms of gameplay, though I suppose that doesn’t overturn the fact that Disney only made this game because of Skylanders‘ success. It’s definitely a viable business decision!

Nintendo tells Wii owners that Wii U isn’t just an upgrade in new message
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
Believe it or not, there are quite a few (to put it mildly) Wii owners that aren’t really sure what a Wii U is. Some are under the misguided impression that the hardware is nothing more than an upgrade or add-on for the Wii.
One way in which Nintendo is looking to clarify things for consumers is through new messaging. On the Wii, users have started to receive a notification from the Big N stating that the Wii is “not just an upgrade – it’s an entirely new system”.
This is just one piece of the puzzle. What else will Nintendo do to inform consumers that the Wii U is something completely new?
Monster Hunter Tri servers go dark today
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 0 comments
With the recent release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Capcom is shutting down the servers for the original game. Today, players will no longer be able to access Monster Hunter Tri’s online functionality.
Capcom announced back in January that it would be turning off the servers for the older Wii game. Although there still are some users who continue to revisit Tri, hopefully they’ll migrate on over to Ultimate in the future.
