Disney Interactive has confirmed that the Cars franchise will act as the fourth Play Set for Disney Infinity. The Incredibles, Monsters University and Pirates of the Caribbean Play Sets will also be available at launch.

Disney describes the Cars Play Set as follows:

The Cars Play Set allows gamers to take on the role of Lightning McQueen, Mater, Holley Shiftwell and Francesco Bernoulli and enter the virtual world of Radiator Springs, where they will prepare the town for a big international racing event. In addition to customizing the town, exploring the outskirts of the city and towing all types of vehicles to make way for tourists, players will be able to race through town, on full sized tracks and pull off amazing, gravity defying feats in a no-holds-barred stunt park.

In Toy Box mode, Lightning, Mater, Holley and Francesco are able to interact with all of the previously revealed characters from The Incredibles, Monsters University and Pirates of the Caribbean; and in addition to characters, the Cars Play Set adds driving/racing play mechanics and track pieces to the Toy Box allowing players to create all-new racing challenges, build and customize tracks and much more.

A new Disney Infinity trailer is posted above.

  • The Flys – “Got You (Where I Want You)
  • Queensrÿche – “Silent Lucidity” – keyboard support

In the interview above, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg is talking all about the upcoming Skylanders: Swap Force, and he addressed one of the key issues people have been having with the game: Why do they need to pay for a whole new portal to place their figurines on?

Well, according to Hirshberg the portal adds new functionality that lets it read the swapping parts of the upcoming came, meaning players can mix and match elements of characters in order to strategize (to whatever extent the game allows, anyhow) more efficiently.

Disney Infinity isn’t being entirely made by Avalanche Software. There’s at least one other studio assisting on the project as well.

On Facebook, Studio Gobo posted a message confirming its involvement with the project. Gobo has been assigned to handle the Pirates of the Caribbean playset.

The notice in full:

“If you see any boats or pirates — that’s the bit that we are working on at Gobo. We’re responsible for the Pirates of the Caribbean playset in Disney Infinity. Very proud.”

Could Gobo be working on other playsets along with Pirates? And might there be other studios developing Disney Infinity?

Harmonix has been produced Rock Band downloadable content for over five years. But in April, the studio will be putting its DLC plans to a halt.

An official statement from Harmonix states that “there is no content currently scheduled beyond April 2nd”. Over the next few weeks, players can look forward to “the remaining tracks from RB Blitz, several Pro guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band.”
