New Nintendo Direct also showcases range of Wii U games coming this spring and summer

17th May 2013 – The next game in SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog series will be exclusive to Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announcing details of a worldwide partnership with SEGA during a new Nintendo Direct video announcement today. Sonic Lost World is a new action-adventure platforming game, and more information about it will be announced before the E3 2013 video game trade show begins on 11th June.

The Nintendo Direct also announced a new addition to the Mario & Sonic series, the first appearance for the series on Wii U, as well as revealing launch dates for Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and New Super Luigi U.

Nintendo is making this year’s E3 about the people, according to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

During today’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced plans to bring the experience closer to consumers through a new initiative with Best Buy. During E3 week, fans will be able to try out demos of some of the Wii U titles featured at the expo by visiting the retailer’s outlets.

New Super Luigi is coming to North America on June 20 and Europe on July 26. In addition to Luigi, users can play as Nabbit in multiplayer mode. A disc-release is also planned, and will come in August.

The standalone DLC will cost $19.99. The disc version will go for $29.99.

Update: North American date: September 15

The Wonderful 101 will launch in Europe on August 23. We’ll likely have a North American date in just a bit – we’ll update this post when we receive that information.
