Wii-U-GamePad

“I would say that [the Wii U] didn’t do as well as we expected. But if Nintendo comes with good brands this year and takes advantage of the yen, then maybe they have a chance to have a machine that has high quality games and at a reasonable price.

“Because we believe a lot in the second screen and the touch possibilities, the fact that you have a different way to play. We learned a lot in doing that and we are already reusing that knowledge using companion apps on tablets, telephones and so on. What I see is we will be able to use a lot more of those devices on the big games we will create. The companion is going to step-by-step become another device to play that will be adapted to a larger audience and still be very interesting to gamers.

“You will be able to play with friends from outside of home and still have a big impact on what’s happening in the game. We will see a big increase in terms of that possibility over the next few years.”

“You can do a lot [with tablets]. What the Nintendo GamePad has is the speed of communication between the two devices, but if you manage to cope with higher latency [on other devices] you can still do many things. So you don’t want players to have to react too fast… it’s complementary to the experience.

“So when we add all of those possibilities, plus graphics and AI, we think that the [next-gen] games will be of a fantastic quality and give us a chance to deliver something different from what you had in the old generation.”

There’s something unusual going on with the Wii U version of Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. It’s the only edition of the game that hasn’t come out yet. Chronicles of Mystara hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in mid-June, but it’s nowhere to be found on Wii U.

So what’s the deal here? We don’t have any specifics currently, but over at the Capcom-Unity boards, staffer Rey Jimenez said that releasing the Wii U SKU “as been a bit of a nightmare for that producer.”

Jimenez isn’t involved with Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, so we’re unlikely to get further details about the situation from him. This whole thing is certainly pretty odd…

Mighty Switch Force! 2 may be heading to Wii U. A rating for the game popped up in the PEGI database earlier today.

This wouldn’t be the first Mighty Switch Force! game on the Wii U eShop. For the Wii U launch, WayForward prepared Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, an updated version of the original.

With the launch of a Nintendo product comes a new Iwata Asks. That’s no different with New Super Luigi U, which is technically more of a DLC release. You can read the full discussion with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and the game’s developers here.

Shigeru Miyamoto has been working very hard on Pikmin 3 in order to help boost the relatively slow sales on the Wii U, and he has a very clear idea on some of the things that went wrong so far and on how the situation might improve, as he explained in part of an interview on the Japanese website 4Gamer.

In a wide-ranging interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed the Wii U’s struggles, delayed games, and more. An official English translation isn’t available, but DualShockers has translated a few bits.

First, here’s what Miyamoto said about the Wii U’s slow start:
