“Well the thing with Rollcage, WipEout, F-Zero as well, they’re all classic, classic games. They, F-Zero and WipEout, had you floating through the scenery, you were just sort of swaying left and right, we’ve got full physics, and we’re pushing the Wii to the limit to make the physics work. We like to think we’ve pretty much got it to the edge, yeah, right to the edge.” – video game creator/Wheelspin developer, Archer MacLean
To be honest, I haven’t been too impressed from what I’ve seen from Wheelspin. However, it still may be an enjoyable title and I’d like to get my hands on the game before making any final judgments.
– “true proper successor to the SMT series”
– 70-100 hours of play time estimated.
– terminals in dungeons for saving and sub-application swapping.
– determine your main character build (attack type, magic type, etc) by answering 6 questions in the prologue tutorial.
– main applications and sub applications on the Demonica Suit provide a wide range of customizable abilities and functions. Very similar to the COMP installation system in Soul Hackers.
– Macca is the currency, Forma is the resource. You have to pay Macca to refine Forma into usable stuff.
– 3 types of Forma: Base Forma, Assist Forma and Rare Forma.
– Base Forma are used to create weapons, equipment, and items. Assist Forma comes in weapon, armor, accessory and healing types, and influence the creation of items. Rare Forma are used to develop applications for the Demonica Suit.
– The alignment system in SJ is the “stance” system. The main character’s stance will change depending on his choices throughout the game. (the guy isn’t sure if the stance attribute takes into account law/chaos or light/dark, but it’s one of them.)
– Stance will have an impact in not just the story, but in demon negotiation and battles as well. The stance of a character or demon can be easily seen by the color of the name. Green/White/Red.
– Something about how the player’s “large stance” influences demon negotiation, while his “small stance” influences the character’s affinity and other stuff.
– The Devil Co-Op system is the brand new addition to the battles in SJ. When an enemy’s weakness is attacked, demons of the same stance will have a chance of following up with an add-on attack.
– There are various other conditions and bonuses for Devil Co-op, but the guy didn’t have information on those from the presentation and demo he had.
– Unknown demons encountered for the first time without any analysis cannot be negotiated with. You build a demon’s analyze bar by killing that demon type, fusing it, or successfully negotiating with it for a contract. The higher the analyze bar the more info on that demon is displayed on the bottom screen when fighting it.
– 2 Demon Fusion and Special Fusion are confirmed, but he didn’t see any Sword Fusion. There’s definitely a compendium with registry, and you can buy demons back with Macca. You can also arrange the list by race or by level.
– There’s going to be a brand new unannounced system revealed soon. It’s supposed to be pretty major and revolutionary for the series, or at least that’s what they’re trying to hint to people. Might be something unique to either the DS or to Wifi. It will be announced soon.

– hunter data can be stored in the Wiimote, then used in 2p Arena mode
– game from scratch, proud of “rich, breathing, living” ecology system (small monsters grouping against big ones, item reaction, etc)
– main reason for the game being on the Wii: you have Classic for MH fans and intuitive Nunchuk for new players. Not just because of waggle, but they love the not rigid, claustrophobic part of it (with separated, relaxed hands).
– They know voice chat is a minimum for western users.
– Community side growing step by step. They’re seeing people from the UK, for example, posting for meeting and playing. They’d love to expand the MH Festa concept and decide the best hunter in the world.
– “great to hear!” praise/pressure feeling from Team Zelda. A lot of time spent in visuals. They think they’re the best on the Wii.
– they need new challenges to think about other platforms. Now, they’re very happy with this controls and I+D team say you can’t go back to classic.
– Conversations with Nintendo about western promotion haven’t started. “We’ll request all of that!” (asked about merchandise, black controller, etc).
– They explained Kurupecco cry-mimic capabilities. And if you show the torch to your cats, they’ll start dancing.
There doesn’t appear to be a huge difference, but the changes mostly lie in the beam cannon graphic effects. For example, you can see that Samus’ cannon does not freeze when charging up the ice beam.
