Sakurai on Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS DLC stages and Mii Fighter outfits
Mii Fighter outfits
Geno
Sakurai has been always wanting to add Geno from SNES’ Super Mario RPG, and feels that he totally fits Super Smash Bros. He also considered adding him in Brawl, but never actually managed to. Geno is also one of the most requested characters, so while they still couldn’t manage to include him as a full-fledged character, at least they are able to include him as a Mii costume.
Flying Man
Flying Man originates from Mother, a game that came far before Super Mario RPG. On 3DS, assets were made to have a 3D model as previously mentioned in the Magicant stage. But after much consideration, they ultimately decided to use pixel art instead, and the 3D model led to the Mii costume. However, it’s possible that they would still make this costume even without making a preliminary 3D model beforehand.
Inkling
It’s been planned from the start that costumes of Splatoon’s characters would be published soon after the game’s release. Everybody knew about them since they were also shown at E3, and Sakurai said they want to keep adding more of Nintendo’s new characters. If there had been other new Nintendo characters, they may have been treated similarly as well.
Rathalos Armor
This totally looks like a hunter. It can’t be helped that the head becomes very big, so they adjusted it to fit Mii proportions.
Lloyd
Within the Tales of series which has a 20-year history, Sakurai thinks Lloyd (from Symphonia) is the most suitable addition. If he were to add someone from a very old game like Cress Albane (protagonist from the firsts game Phantasia), it would have required a lot of supervision with the original creators.
