Mega Man Legends 3

Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 roughly four years ago. But that doesn’t mean Keiji Inafune (who was working on development of the project) wouldn’t be interested in bringing it back.

Game Informer recently asked Inafune if ReCore – a new Xbox One title coming from his Comcept studio and Armature – will use any ideas from Mega Man Legends 3. To this, he said that he’d like to make that game if he had the chance.

Inafune’s full comments:

Maybe not at the level of calling out specific gameplay features that would have gone into Legends 3. To be completely honest, if I had the chance, I would still say, “Yes, I want to still make that game.” In that regard, there’s something probably emotional or spiritual that I feel like on a very high level that I don’t completely lose everything, all my ideas, that I had at that time. They may have been transferred or carried over or been reflected in some way, shape, or form in ReCore. That’s something that is part of me, so it’s going into ReCore. One thing that I feel is very different though is that if I went down the Legends 3 path and I was continuing on that path I feel like maybe it’s a bit of more of a throwback to when it was made. Going back into time, but giving it a new skin and fresh look. With ReCore though, I’m not looking back. I’m looking into the future. I’m looking beyond what I can do today. This has given me the opportunity to retain some of what was in my soul, but then transfer that into a future outlook and direction. That’s a big difference in the path that, to me, is different between those two titles.

Capcom pulled the plug on Mega Man Legends 3 a few years ago, but we’re just now starting to learn who would have voiced Aero in the game.

In an old interview posted to the Mega Man Legends 3 Devroom, it was revealed that Aero’s voice actress grew up without a TV. It was also stated that this person worked on a game with Mega Man characters a year before the interview.

This information suggests that Tara Platt was behind the voice of Aero. Not only had Platt voiced Tron Bonne in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but an interview recently discovered on YouTube has her stating that she did not have a television set growing up.

Platt has plenty of voice acting experience. Her previous roles include Temari in Naruto, Reina in Rave Master, Noir in Tales of the Abyss, and Mitsuru Kirijo in Persona 3.

Here’s a little bit of depressing news for you. Mega Man Legends 3, cancelled by Capcom back in 2011, nearly had its voice work finished.

Cup of Tea Productions was working with Capcom on the game’s voice recording portions. Interestingly enough, owner Danni Hunt told Siliconera in a recent interview that they were “almost completed.”

He said:

That was us though. It was almost completed. It was voiced. I can confirm it was almost completed.

We’re almost three years removed since Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3. However, Keiji Inafune is still dying to make that game, even though it’ll probably never happen.

Inafune, speaking with USGamer, noted how Legends 3 is the game he wants to create the most. It’s his ultimate wish. “I put so much effort into that game, so much passion into that game, but it didn’t happen,” he said. “It’s always a regret in my mind.”

If Capcom were to approach Inafune about bringing Mega Man Legends 3 back to life, he believes he could gather most of the original team members are make the title.
