Night in the Woods

Night in the Woods Collector's Edition

More than three years after it was initially announced, the physical release for Night in the Woods is finally coming to fruition – and it’ll include a collector’s edition.

We first heard about plans for boxed versions in 2019. However, it was postponed following allegations against Alec Holowka, who was a coder, composer, and co-designer on the game.

Alec Holowka, who acted as a designer, programmer, and composer on Night in the Woods, has passed away. His sister made the news known on Twitter

A few months ago, a physical version of Night in the Woods was announced for Switch by distributor Limited Run Games. That release, in addition to a current project from the developer of the original title, have been scrapped following abuse allegations against Alec Holowka.

Zoƫ Quinn came forward yesterday with a statement on Twitter, which you can read in full here. She wrote about the abuse from Holowka, who acted as a coder, composer, and co-designer on Night in the Woods.

As for Night in the Woods team, swift action has been taken. Alec will no longer be associated with the studio, in addition to the aforementioned moves affecting its other games and project.

The following statement was published on the Night in the Woods Twitter account today:

A bunch of titles made it to the Switch eShop today, including the well-regarded Night in the Woods. See some extensive gameplay below.

Night in the Woods publisher Finji has passed along a few extra tidbits about the game on Switch. As previously mentioned, it’s out now in both North America and Europe.

Since fans have been asking, Finji has confirmed that Night in the Woods runs at a 1080p resolution when docked. In portable mode, it’s 720p. The game also runs at 60 frames per second.

Night in the Woods doesn’t make use of touch or motion controls. However, rumble is enabled and can be used with all standard configurations of the Joy-Con controllers.

Night in the Woods publisher Finji has confirmed a couple of extra tidbits about Night in the Woods on Switch. The game will include the Weird Autumn content as well as the solstice content.

The news comes directly from Finji’s Twitter page:

Night in the Woods’ Weird Autumn content has been described like a director’s cut. It added new dialogue and activities, the Longest Night and Lost Constellation side stories, and more.

Switch will be getting Night in the Woods on February 1.

Update: We’ve heard from Finji that the release date on the eShop is wrong, which was apparently the company’s fault. Night in the Woods will now release slightly later than expected on February 1.

Original: A few months ago, it was strongly suggested that the acclaimed adventure game Night in the Woods would eventually arrive on Switch. We now have confirmation that it’s happening.

A listing on the eShop shows that Night in the Woods is coming to Switch – and apparently very soon. Finji will apparently publish the game on January 18 for $19.99.

Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn Edition was announced today. It’s an expanded version of the highly-regarded game with a bunch of new content.

Here’s the thing: Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn Edition was confirmed for almost every major platform. Switch wasn’t included, but there could be a reason for that. The official Twitter account teased that we should “stay tuned for news on another console, which I am unable to mention for reasons, but you know what console I’m talking about.” One would have to assume that Switch is being referenced here.
