Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition

Not only was Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition announced for Switch during the Indie World Showcase last week, but it also released that same day. That shadowdrop release worked out well for Monomi Park as the game is off to a fast start on the eShop.

According to Monomi Park co-founder and CEO Nick Popovich, Slime Rancher’s Switch launch “was the best sales day in its history.” That’s despite the fact that the game has been around for several years.

Monomi Park is currently developing Slime Rancher 2, which was revealed earlier this year. There’s no word on a Switch release currently, but given the success of the original game on the console, perhaps a port will happen down the road.

Zelda: Skyward Sword was the best-selling boxed retail game. New Joy-Con based on the title also debuted during the month, and the controller was the third best-selling accessory.

Nintendo as a whole was the second biggest publisher of July – EA was first and SEGA was third. Switch held a 21.5 percent share for console software sales, behind the PS4’s 35 percent.

Nintendo Switch

According to this month’s NPD report, Switch was the best-selling console in the US last month in terms of unit sales. PlayStation 5 was the leader for dollar sales, though it’s worth noting that Sony’s console is more expensive.

For 2021 as a whole, Switch is the best-selling gaming hardware for both unit and dollar sales.

Also worth noting is that in July, the Zelda: Skyward Sword Joy-Con was the best-selling accessory across the industry in dollar sales.
