Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

One of the highlights for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is its various collaborations, and one of these is for Yakuza’s Ichiban Kasuga. Creative director Masaru Kobayakawa recently shared a bit of backstory about the character’s inclusion in a recent interview with Famitsu.

Kobayakawa told the Japanese magazine that there was some initial hesitation from the Yakuza team about the collaboration. He said:

Nintendo Switch 2 missed out on the recent launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka says that the game will use the “full capability” of the system.

Technically, you can play the title on Nintendo’s latest console through backwards compatibility with the Switch 1 release. However, there should be benefits with the proper Nintendo Switch 2 version.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Minecraft DLC release date

October 6: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds hasn’t been out for very long, but a new collaboration DLC is coming very soon as we now have the release date for the Minecraft Pack DLC. Players can access it starting on October 8, 2025. The Minecraft Festival will be held until October 11.

Several more collaboration packs are in the works. SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Avatar Legends were previously announced.

Below is a trailer for the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds x Minecraft Pack DLC:

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds review

System: Switch
Release date: September 25, 2025
Developer: Sonic Team
Publisher: SEGA

By complete coincidence, 2025 is the year of racing games – we’ve got Mario Kart World, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Kirby Air Riders yet to come. This means that in terms of online discourse, you’ll almost always see at least two of these games compared to each other. In the past, Sonic has starred in several high-quality racing games – Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was fairly popular back in its day, and some would even say it rivaled your typical Mario Kart title. Continuing that trend, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds absolutely stands its ground in the kart racer scene – but as you might expect, there are some compromises on the Nintendo Switch version.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Mega Man

Just before the launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Mega Man DLC has now been officially revealed. This will be released in the future – there’s no word on when exactly at the moment.

Mega Man himself will be included, but he won’t be alone. Proto Man is also included in the DLC. On top of that, SEGA is including the new Wily Castle course, the Rush Roadstar vehicle, and that legendary theme song.

SEGA is celebrating the launch of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with a new trailer. Later this week, the racer will arrive on Nintendo Switch.

Everything you need to know can be found in the following overview:

We’ll have to wait for an official announcement, but it looks like the final crossover DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been revealed.

We actually have a pretty good idea about most of the DLC lineup. Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Avatar Legends have all been announced at this point. Everything was confirmed throughout the summer. That brings us to today’s potential leak – which we’ll be covering below, so keep that in mind before proceeding.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds demo

SEGA is giving Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds fans another chance to try out the game with a newly-announced demo. Nintendo Switch players can download the trial on September 17, 2025.

Note that this is different from the online open beta that was recently held. According to SEGA, the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds demo is single-player only. We’re currently waiting to hear about what specific content will be included.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is collaborating with some pretty big IPs for its guest characters, but one criticism fans have had is the lack of voices. Because of this, you won’t hear the likes of SpongeBob, Steve from Minecraft, and Pac-Man talking in the game. SEGA has now spoken about the decision.

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka spoke about this in an interview with Destructoid. It seems that if guest characters were to be voiced in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, it would have increased the “scop of review” for external companies.

Iizuka said in the interview:

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds open beta

August 19: Tying in with Gamescom 2025, SEGA announced an open beta for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch. It will run between starting on August 28 at 9:01 PM PT / August 29 at 12:01 AM ET, lasting until September 1 at 8:59 PM PT / 11:59 PM ET.

In the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds open beta, players will have access to twelve Sonic characters and sixteen courses (nine main courses and seven CrossWorlds). There’ll also be 42 gadgets to choose from. You’ll be able to race against other players worldwide, and SEGA is also teasing “a couple of surprises”.
