Street Fighter 6

System: Switch 2
Release date: June 5, 2025
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom

When Nintendo revealed Switch 2 earlier this year, of all the games announced to be releasing alongside the system on launch day, it was Street Fighter 6 that had me the most excited. The original Nintendo Switch missed out on so many major releases in the fighting game genre; outside of Smash Bros. Ultimate and some iffy Mortal Kombat ports, the pickings were slim for those seeking a big, modern, flashy fighting game (although we did get what felt like roughly a thousand retro fighting game collections.) These titles have always felt like such a natural fit for handheld play to me, so when Street Fighter 6 released to near universal critical acclaim on other platforms a few years ago, I was eager to someday play it on a console where I could hone my skills at home or on the go. Fortunately, while Street Fighter 6 had to make a few compromises to make it onto Nintendo Switch 2, for the most part this is an excellent way to enjoy Capcom’s premier current-gen fighting game.

Street Fighter 6 Year 3

As part of Sumemr Game Fest 2025, Capcom shared a Year 3 character reveal for Street Fighter 6.

Sagat is up first this summer. Then in the fall, we’ll be seeing C. Viper. Early Spring 2026 will bring us Alex. Finally, in late spring of next year, we’ll be seeing Ingrid.

If you’re looking to see what Street Fighter 6 is all about, you might be interested to know that a demo is available.

This is actually the first very demo for Nintendo Switch 2. As of now that’s the only one available for the system.

Metroid Prime 4 Switch 2 vs Switch 1 comparison

Nintendo Switch 2 graphical comparison videos are starting to drop, and first up is Metroid Prime 4 and Street Fighter 6.

For Metroid Prime 4, it’s Nintendo Switch 2 going up against Switch 1 here. Nintendo has already highlighted how on the new console, it can run at a higher resolution and frame rate. Support is included for HDR as well. Also, while it’s a gameplay feature, Nintendo Switch 2 supports the new mouse functionality.

Nintendo Switch 2 game-key cards

Physical games are still happening on Nintendo Switch 2, but something new is being thrown into the mix with what is being called game-key cards.

Nintendo says that these are a new cartridge type that don’t have data. In order to play them, you will need to download the game from the Internet like a digital version. The cartridge will still be needed to play. It goes without saying, but you’ll need enough space available for that download.

Street Fighter 6 Nintendo Switch 2

Street Fighter 6, the latest entry in Capcom’s legendary fighting series, is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 complete with new amiibo. That news was just shared during today’s Nintendo Direct dedicated to the new console.

This mimics Capcom’s approach with the Nintendo 3DS many years ago. For the launch of that system, the company had Super Street Fighter 4: 3D Edition ready to go for launch.
