The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom playable protagonist

The developers behind Echoes of Wisdom have opened up on the decision to make Zelda playable and take the starring role as the protagonist.

Interestingly, the team was actually thinking about Link having his standard role as the main character you play as. But as things progressed with the concept of echoes, Nintendo and Grezzo felt that the protagonist needed to be someone who lacked a sword and shield.

Aonuma also acknowledged fan requests made over the years to see Zelda be the protagonist. After seeing the team struggle over who should be the main character in Echoes of Wisdom, it made sense for Zelda to be playable.

Aonuma and Grezzo director Satoshi Terada shared the following:

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom dungeon creating

In a new interview ahead of this week’s launch for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Switch, the developers revealed that the game was originally being made to let players create their own dungeons. Eventually this morphed into echoes featured in the final product.

We get to hear from Grezzo director Satoshi Terada, Nintendo director Tomomi Sano, and series producer Eiji Aonuma here. The group started off by sharing the following:

As the launch for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom approaches, retailers are starting to reveal pre-order bonuses and we’re rounding them all up here. This post will be updated leading up to release.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a big release for the franchise as Zelda herself is the main protagonist you’ll be playing as throughout the adventure. Even though there’s talk of Link being playable as well, the princess should still have the starring role. Zelda will be using the Tri Rod to create “echoes” to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

Here’s our pre-order roundup:

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom developer

It won’t come as much of a surprise, but it does indeed look like Grezzo is the main developer behind The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Many had speculated that this would be the case following the game’s reveal earlier in the year. Although Nintendo never confirmed that officially, it was extremely likely. After all, Echoes of Wisdom largely seems to be based on the same engine that powered the Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake that made it to Switch a few years ago.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases in just under two weeks, but spoilers and other leaks of that nature are likely to start today as a ROM of the game has been leaked online.

Nintendo just issued yet another Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer, this time giving a general overview. A few things we’ve seen before are shown here like locations and the Still World, but some new footage is sprinkled throughout.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Two new commercials have been released by Nintendo of Japan for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, giving us another glimpse of the game ahead of its release in a couple of weeks.

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Hero Mode difficulty

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom appears to include a Hero Mode featuring a higher level of difficulty. That’s based on a new playable version of the game featured at PAX West 2024.

Fans have been going hands-on with the game and spotted the detail. It looks like that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will let players choose between Hero and Normal Mode difficulties. As of now it’s unclear if the final version will let players access the option right away or requires an unlock.

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Still World, Swordfighter Form

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom just received its latest trailer showing off the Still World and revealing the Swordfighter Form.

We’ve previously seen rifts in Hyrule, and Zelda will be able to enter those with the help of Tri. In the Still World, various objects and beings swallowed by the rift will appear – and there’s the threat of them vanishing completely. Zelda will need to traverse broken terrain, and players can use echoes to move forward. Dungeons and bosses are also confirmed for the Still World.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom amiibo support

There was a little bit of speculation within the Zelda community about this previously, but Nintendo recently made it official that Echoes of Wisdom will support amiibo. That news comes from the official Japanese website.

Using a compatible figure will have a couple of effects. First, amiibo can provide items that can be used on your adventure. Nintendo also teased that you might be able to get different colors of clothing with an amiibo in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
