We’re still going through the slow news blues of January, so I’ll post this video even though I’m sure 99% of you have seen it before. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy its beauty!

Ubisoft Vancouver has been shut down. A spokesperson confirmed the news to Game Informer earlier today.

It was explained that Ubisoft “haven’t found the right formula for success for the talented team there.”

The spokesperson said:

“Ubisoft confirms that we have made the difficult decision to close its studio in Vancouver. Unfortunately, we haven’t found the right formula for success for the talented team there. We thank our Vancouver team for their hard work and the projects that they have delivered. Team members will have the opportunity to consider positions in other Ubisoft studios and we will work with each of them to help find the best next step, whether it be within Ubisoft or outside.”

Ubisoft Vancouver created a variety of sports titles, including Academy of Champions for Wii. The studio formed following Ubisoft’s acquisition of Action Pants back in 2006.

There’s no doubt that this is from Rhythm Heaven Fever. I’m just wondering if this is official footage from the localized version of the game!

There’s a ton of footage here – about an hour’s worth actually. You can find all of the videos after the break!

17th January 2012 – Didn’t catch the last series of The Only Way is Essex, fancy watching great movies such as The Expendables or The Aviator or seeing full seasons of Breaking Bad, Top Gear or Torchwood? Wii owners in the UK and Ireland can now stream their favourite films and TV programmes onto their TV via their Wii, after Netflix announced its service expansion into the UK. Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX), is available now for a low monthly subscription of £5.99.

With more than 20 million streaming members in 47 countries and territories, Netflix has revolutionised entertainment by providing seamless and unlimited access to tens of thousands of hours of Hollywood and international feature films, full seasons of new and classic TV series, global documentaries, independent cinema and an incredible range of kids programming in a specially designed area of the service called “Just for Kids.” Thanks to a recent partnership announcement, fans can also watch the BBC Worldwide back catalogue via Netflix on their Wii.

We’ve been in a Wii U news drought for a good seven to eight months now. Chances are we won’t be receiving new, official details about the console until GDC at the earliest. At least we do have some new bits that may tide you over until then!

The information below was collected from various online resumes:

– Ghost Recon Online will be called Ghost Recon Online Arcade
– LEGO City Stories could be a launch title
– Ubisoft Paris is working on a Wii U game, which is probably a Rabbids project
– Someone at THQ is creating a AAA game for Wii U, PS3, and 360; team isn’t specified; Darksiders II or Metro: Last Light are possible, but aren’t confirmed (could be something else entirely)

The most interesting find is that Ubisoft is developing an unannounced card title for Wii U. The news comes from Damien Bernard, a staffer involved with the Black Eyed Peas and Just Dance games. He has also worked on Driver: San Francisco.

Bernard’s LinkedIn profile lists the mystery project. He did confirm that it’s a “Wii U game which we adapted to the card game/board game format.”

Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure isn’t all about music and rhythm gameplay. Producer Shun Nakamura assured Nintendo Power that the title is jam-packed with emotion.

Nakamura told the magazine:

“Let me put it this way: When you hear a song about heartbreak while you’re heartbroken yourself, don’t you connect with it much more deeply? Similarly, by giving players a hero to empathise with, all the moments become more powerful. The only other Rhythm game that I can think of that tried to connect with players on an emotional level was Sega’s Space Channel 5. I don’t think any other rhythm game has ever attempted to engage players’ emotions on as many levels as Rhythm Thief does.”
