Deck the halls with downloadable fun this week as Nintendo offers 11 new games to engage and entertain everyone in the household. Among this week’s highlights is the Virtual Console™ debut of the original Super Smash Bros.™ game, bringing the total of downloadable games for the WiiWare™ and Virtual Console services to a fabulous 500 and featuring a host of beloved characters from across the Nintendo universe. New WiiWare offerings include the Earth-conscious action game Eco Shooter: Plant 530™ and a sequel to the quiz-lovers’ favorite TV Show King. For Nintendo DSiWare™ fans, fresh arrivals include hand-held versions of the card-table classic UNO™ and the pioneering arcade game Dragon’s Lair®. For rollicking multiplayer fun, mellow single-player diversions and everything in-between, Nintendo’s got you covered for the holidays and beyond.

Famitsu has reported that Dragon Quest IX has exceeded 4.15 million units in terms of shipment numbers. This information is a significant record for the game because it has beaten Dragon Quest VII as the most-shipped title in the series. Keep in mind that Dragon Quest IX hasn’t sold 4.15 million, but it’s an impressive feat nonetheless. The title launched in Japan back in July and seems to be on its way of reaching 5 million units sold, which is what Square Enix president Yoichi Wada is hoping for.

Nintendo!

Since 1985 when the Nintendo Entertainment System first released, Nintendo has been premiering a slew of fantastic first party titles every single year, starting with Mario and eventually leading to things like Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, and Star Fox. Every single franchise has it’s individual perks, but everyone that plays them has one particular favorite that really strikes them as being truly fantastic. Mario has its near-perfect platforming gameplay, Zelda has an epic adventure that really draws you in, Metroid has a sci-fi exploration element; There really is something for everyone in these Nintendo franchises. Now, while I love every single one of these games to death, there is one that is just a tiny step above the rest: The Legend of Zelda.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted an article talking about my gaming epiphany, hoping to share my roots of gaming with the rest of you, and maybe even grab a few responses to see exactly where all of you guys started. Little did I know I’d get so many responses! Many of you posted long descriptions of the first big title you played, or how you started to really get into games. The feedback was so strong, in fact, that I came to Valay asking if there was any way to “official-ize” this question/response sort of article to garner even more responses. After a bit of discussion, we settled on a new set of weekly articles titled, “What do YOU think?” articles. In the interest of keeping things short, I’ll try and make this quick.

Essentially, these articles will have a topic, and ask you all to give your thoughts on it. For instance, last time the topic was “Gaming Epiphanies”, and this week the topic is “First Party Nintendo Franchises”. All you’ve gotta do is read the short article and head on down to the comments section to post your own personal response. Each week I’ll pick out some of the best responses from the week prior and post them up with next week’s article for everyone to read. Sound simple enough? I hope so. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to e-mail either myself or Valay through NE’s contact form, or simply leave a comment. With that out of the way, stay tuned for the first article going up in just a bit!
