Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 2 Comments
Nov 13, 2009 – The BBC and Nintendo UK today unveil a new version of the popular BBC iPlayer on Nintendo’s Wii. First made available through the console’s internet channel in April 08, BBC iPlayer will now be available as a dedicated ‘Wii Channel’ to provide Wii users with a new, richer experience of the BBC’s TV and Radio on demand catch up service. The new Wii Channel is expected to be available from 00:01 on Wednesday 18 November.
Since BBC iPlayer first launched on the Nintendo Wii, there have been 900,000 requests for TV and Radio programmes, and this new version of BBC iPlayer for Wii has been designed to deliver a better and higher quality experience, with a new full screen user interface allowing the whole family to catch up on TV and radio together in the lounge.

BBC iPlayer Wii channel launching in the UK next week
Posted on 15 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 2 Comments
Wii owners have previously been able to access the BBC iPlayer through the Internet Channel. Starting next Wednesday, however, the iPlayer will be getting its own channel in the UK. It looks as though the interface has received a facelift, as there were many complaints for those who have accessed the iPlayer in the past. The system is also “faster, high quality and improved viewing experience”. This channel is a UK exclusive right now and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
Thanks to Dan for the news tip!

Nintendo responds to the October 2009 NPD sales data

Nintendo News: Nintendo Systems Top Sales Charts Ahead of Holiday Shopping Season
Nintendo’s Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ systems claimed the top hardware sales positions for October, making them well-positioned to become one of the must-have holiday gifts for the fourth consecutive year. U.S. shoppers snapped up nearly 507,000 Wii systems in October, bringing lifetime sales to more than 22 million, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii sales spiked more than 9.5 percent over September, a remarkable result, considering that September was a five-week reporting month for NPD, while October included just four weeks. Consumers were attracted by top software like Wii Sports Resort™ and Wii Fit™ Plus, as well as the system’s new suggested retail price of $199.99.
Nintendo’s hand-helds, Nintendo DSi™ and Nintendo DS Lite, combined to sell more than 457,000 units, and placed second in overall video game hardware sales. The Nintendo DS franchise has sold through nearly 34 million units in the United States since its 2004 launch and is poised to surpass the all-time single-year U.S. hardware sales record, set in 2008 by the Wii console, with more than 10 million units sold.
