Contrary to Nintendo’s initial statements about the DSi, the handheld will indeed see exclusive games. Not just downloadable content, but titles which gamers will actually be able to pick up in stores.

“In addition to downloadable games, Nintendo DSi is able to play games made specifically for the system and sold at retail. The system can also play most Nintendo DS™ games, and will have access to a library of more than 850 titles originally made for that system.” – Nintendo of America press release

Black Bean Games brings you Ico Soccer

Milan, Italy – 18th February, 2009 – Black Bean Games and Artematica Entertainment strengthen their partnership with the release of a new concept game for soccer, due by the end of June. Ico Soccer has been thought for Nitendo DSTM and represents a game based mainly on logic and strategic analysis rather then reflexes and strong licence.

Ico Soccer is a touch-based soccer experience that brings the player to be the team manager, interacting on team formation, substitution and tactics. Through Nintendo DS Stylus and visual icons, representing the different actions of the match, the player can move the entire team according to his strategy. With the balance bar, placed at the bottom of the fully fledged screen, the player is perfectly aware of the attitude of the team through the entire match.

9 February 2009 – Nintendo will launch its new handheld console, the Nintendo DSi, in Europe on 3 April 2009. The Nintendo DSi will be available in black or white and is the thinnest and lightest member of the Nintendo DS family. The console is packed with new features that will excite fans of and newcomers to the Nintendo DS range.

There are many ways to have fun with the Nintendo DSi, from creating, customising and sharing photos with friends & family or listening to and experimenting with your favourite music, to playing more than 1000 Nintendo DS games and downloading new Nintendo DSiWare games directly onto your console. The Nintendo DSi also features built-in Internet browsing capabilities, meaning the fun begins the moment you switch it on!

DSi price + date (US)

– $169.99
– April 5
– Was close to Matt’s prediction
– Craig thought it would be $149, Matt said it would be $179
– Was going to be $179 but Nintendo decided to change it
– Bozon thinks it might have been helpful that the price got out there and then people freaked out
– Recap: Has 2 built-in cameras, built-in memory, SD card slot to save photos + AAC files
– Craig thinks it’s a cool system
– $40 more than the DS Lite – Daemon thinks that’s reasonable
– You are losing out on the GBA port + DS games that use the slot
– Red Octane won’t miss the boat on DSi – Craig believes they’re working on peripheral for Guitar Hero franchise on DSi
– Probably won’t make it so you can play the ones that already came out on the DSi
– Should upgrade if you have the first DS
– Bozon loves the d-pad on the DSi
– There are cool little things on the DSi like the ability to swap cartridges, if you hold down the select button and hold up or down you can adjust the brightness within a game
– Can update firmware
– Will have to deal with the mini-fridge problem like the Wii
– For the most part Craig thinks the DSi is a good step up but it’s not mindblowing
– Matt says it’s worth it
– No differences between Japanese + NA DSi systems
– No white color for launch
– Matt wishes there was white
– Craig surprised that Nintendo is offering two colors
– Bozon loves the black DSi but there are scuff marks
– Interface is much slicker
– Haven’t announced any DSiWare games for NA – will probably be more announcements from Iwata at GDC
– Last week Craig was shown the Japanese version of Wario Ware + one of the Art Style games

The DSi, which was just announced for North America a few hours ago, is garnering big interest from fans. The system is available for preorder at Amazon.com and is already topping the sales charts. Right now, the black matte model sits at the number four position for bestsellers in the video game section while the matte blue finish is at the seventh spot. Not too long ago, both editions ranked at the second and third positions. Perhaps these stats are a sign of the long-term success that the DSi will experience once it is released in North America on April 5.
