Rumor has it that earlier this month, president of The Pokemon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, spoke with Famitsu and briefly discussed a new game for Wii. You can check out the snippet below:

“I can’t go into details about it, but we’re also working on a Wii game. It should be announced soon.”

I find it odd that this wasn’t mentioned elsewhere, especially since this issue hit newsstands a number of weeks ago. It’s possible that it was somehow missed, though. If I remember correctly, this should have been the edition when Famitsu was interviewing Ishihara about HeartGold/Soul Silver.

I’d be content if there was a new project for Wii. I just wonder whether it’d be a WiiWare title, a 3D battle experience, or something similar to the games on Nintendo’s handhelds.

Update: Apparently someone working on the Wii version of Modern Warfare says that the game is NOT going to support WiiSpeak: “I’m not sure where the presenters got their information from, but the game doesn’t support wii speak. Sorry guys.” I can’t confirm that this person is in fact a developer, but now when you think of it, it would be sort of odd for WiiSpeak to be suddenly included.

Even though WiiSpeak support in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex was not originally planned, the developers have had a change of heart. At an Activision Blizzard press event in Portugal, it was confirmed that the title will make use of the peripheral after all. A captured slide at the event notes:

“Players can talk with their team over the Wii WiFi network, with no headset required. This feature is not normally available with Wii online games”

This is, without a doubt, fantastic news. But you have to wonder if the negative reaction to the lack of WiiSpeak support influenced the developers to change their minds.
