A few details on Monster Hunter 4’s newly revealed Volcanic Cavern map have been translated from this week’s Famitsu. The information, most of which pertains to the different monsters included in the area, can be found below.

Volcanic Cavern

– Includes familiar monsters
– Gravios and Iodrome can be found here
– Teostra, the Elder Dragon, will also be on this map

Teostra

– Flame King Teostra
– First appeared in Monster Hunter 2 and has been more recently active in Monster Hunter Frontier
– Teostra is the male counterpart of the Empress of Flame, Lunastra
– Teostra has flammable powder that he spreads across the air with his wings, followed by explosions
– He also has a flamethrower attack that is said to triple its length when he’s in rage mode

Gravios and Basarios

– Gravios and the juvenile Basarios will be appearing in Monster Hunter 4’s new Volcanic Cavern
– Gravios is known for being one of the largest dragon-type monsters
– Can’t fly as well as other wyverns due to its heavy weight
– Has an extra tough body
– Can emit flaming and sleep-inducing gasses
– Also can shoot powerful fire beams
– These beams are apparently more destructive in Monster Hunter 4

Iodrome

– Wyvern
– Iodrome and its Ioprey minions will be making a return in Monster Hunter 4
– It would be best to take along extra antidotes when you visit the Volcanic Cavern to beat these monsters

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai revealed an interesting nugget about the Animal Crossing Villager in his Famitsu column posted this week.

According to Sakurai, the character was previously considered for Brawl. However, he was removed “in the planning stages because he wasn’t suited for battle.”

“A lot of people understood Mega Man, but they kept asking me ‘Why did you go for the villager and the Wii Fit trainer?’, Neither of them are fighting characters, certainly. In fact, we had previously removed the villager from Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the planning stages because he wasn’t suited for battle.”
