Miyamoto praises Vita hardware, says it needs games

What does Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto think about Sony’s PlayStation Vita? Miyamoto was asked for this thoughts about the system recently, but only offered a succinct comment.
Nonetheless, Miyamoto did praise the hardware behind the Vita. Although he called it “a very hi-spec machine”, he believes it could use more quality games.
In an interview with EDGE, Miyamoto told the magazine:
“It’s obviously a very hi-spec machine, and you can do lots of things with it. But I don’t really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product.”
Miyamoto later drew parallels to the launch of the 3DS, which lacked must-have software at launch:
“When we launched the 3DS hardware we didn’t have Super Mario 3D Land, we didn’t have Mario Kart 7, we didn’t have Kid Icarus: Uprising. We were striving to have all of these ready for the launch, but we weren’t able to deliver them at that time.
“We were kind of hoping that people would, nevertheless, buy into the product, find 3DS hardware promising, but looking back we have to say we realise the key software was missing when we launched the hardware.”

Next week’s NPD report could bring along encouraging first month results for Xenoblade Chronicles. Analyst firm PiperJaffray has made some forecasts about the upcoming data, including a prediction that the epic RPG was the third best-selling game in the U.S. last month. If this turns out to be true, I’m sure Nintendo would be more than happy with Xenoblade’s performance in North America thus far.

Next week, SEGA’s Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Monster World IV will be hitting the Wii Shop Channel. Each title will be available for 900 points.
This is the first time Monster World IV will be released outside of Japan.
So yes, two Virtual Console Wii games in the same week. When was the last time that happened?!

SEGA has an unannounced project in the works for Wii U. Based on a LinkedIn entry, it looks like the game will be a downloadable release.
SEGA of America associate producer Matthew Hickman included a listing for an “unannounced title” in his online profile. In addition to Wii U, it’s in development for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and PC. As many of you know, PSN/XBLA are virtual platforms, so this new project will probably appear on the Wii U’s digital store.
