Wii U

HBO Go likely for Wii U

Posted on 11 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments

There have been a few, vague pieces of evidence suggesting that HBO Go would be coming to Wii U. However, it hasn’t been util now that more specific proof pointed to the possibility.

A Time Warner job posting states that the company has partnered with Nintendo (and others) who “will launch HBO/MAX GO in the future.” These services could potentially make their way to the 3DS, but a Wii U channel/application/download is more likely at this point. After all, the same job listing does mentioned “connected TV and game console digital partners”.

The relevant posting in full:

“The Partner Manager position is responsible for the day-to-day relationship and ongoing marketing activities with several key Mobile, Tablet, Connected TV and Game Console digital partners for HBO GO and MAX GO. Partners include Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Samsung, Roku, as well as any new partners that will launch HBO/MAX GO in the future.”

Perhaps Nintendo could make an announcement about this at E3. Or maybe they’ll save the news for a later date?

Maximum Games has posted the boxart for Jett Tailfain on its website. The 3DS photo could be final, but I’m not too sure about the Wii U one. If I’m remembering correctly, we didn’t see what the 3DS boxes/boxart looked like until a couple of months before the system launched. The same situation will likely occur for Wii U, but we’ll see.

Ever since we found out about Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, there have strong hints about a Wii U version.

For instance, producer producer Joe Neate teased the possibility at the end of April by saying that fans should be on the lookout “for potential other platforms”.

Now we may have received the ultimate confirmation of a Wii U version, provided the image above is real. It apparently came from an alternate version of today’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed trailer. While the photo itself is likely legitimate, we currently can’t verify that the video was officially made by SEGA.

There are apparently quite a few developers out there who feel that the Wii U will be tough to work with.

In a new IGN report, the site stated that 63% of creators polled believe Nintendo’s new console would be the most challenging platform to develop for.

One dev in particular said that it wouldn’t “be working on Wii U due to these complexities”, while another hinted that bringing innovative titles to other platforms could be problematic.

Take a look at the following blurb from the article:

“…By comparison, 63% of developers who spoke to IGN said the Wii U would be the most challenging platform to develop for. One creator went as far as saying, ‘we won’t be working on Wii U due to these complexities,’ while another lamented the difficulty of moving innovative games unique to Wii U to other platforms. This poses the question: Will Nintendo once again need to rely primarily on first-party games to propel platform success? At any rate, the Wii U’s 2012 release window gives it a distinct advantage: time.”

IGN suggests that, in due time, developers “may adapt to and embrace” Wii U because they will have time to work it before other console launches. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 successors aren’t expected to arrive until late 2013.

A domain name for a possible new Scribblenauts title has been discovered. Earlier this week, Warner Bros.’s registrar nabbed the site “ScribblenautsUnimited.com”.

Assuming this is a real game, perhaps it’ll come to Wii U. Developer 5th is rumored to be working on a launch game for the platform.

The Scribblenauts series has previously seen entries on the DS and iOS.

The image above comes from the debut trailer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. As you can see, there’s no Wii U logo up there.

We still don’t know for sure if Lords of Shadow 2 is in the works for Nintendo’s new console, but it’s in doubt now. Either Konami was asked to keep a Wii U version a secret until the Big N’s conference, or it’s simply not planned for the system. I’m sure all will be made clear in a few days.

The only notable omission is the Adventure Time game for the 3DS/DS. It’s due out later this year.
