Wii

The Wii got off to a massive start (err– a four year long “start”) across the globe, but despite the sales lead it managed to procure it seems that sluggish sales of the console in 2011 and 2012 have allowed Microsoft’s competing Xbox to close the gap and prepare to surpass Nintendo in the coming months. According to Chart Track data, the Xbox 360 actually outsold the Wii 4 to 1 in 2012.

“The success of Microsoft and the Xbox 360 during the past two years highlights a radical changing of the guard in the game industry. Much has been made about a steady video game sales decline in the past three years. In reality the decline has mainly been due to the aging console systems and more importantly because of Nintendo’s collapse.” – DFC Intelligence, analysis firm

The real question now is whether the Wii U can perform even half as good as its predecessor.

This week’s GameStop deals are as follows:

Note: The offers above are running concurrently with the standard weekly sales.

XSEED VP Ken Berry opened up on a number of interesting topics in an interview with Digital Trends. Berry discussed its support of Wii, its “deal” with Nintendo for The Last Story, the company’s sales expectations for Pandora’s Tower, and Retro Game Challenge 2 localization.

Sadly, XSEED has no plans to localize the DS title – nor will it consider an eShop release. The first game “was an incredibly expensive project”, but it didn’t sell well at all. As a result, XSEED can’t take a similar risk with Retro Game Challenge 2.

Head past the break to read up on all of Berry’s commentary.

So you have a bunch of Virtual Console lying on your Wii. Maybe you’ve already transferred them to a Wii U. Now, what happens if you wanted to transfer save data when the Wii U VC service officially launches this spring?

Unfortunately, Nintendo has confirmed that gamers won’t be able to transfer saves from the Wii’s Virtual Console to the Wii U’s Virtual Console. You’ll be able to “upgrade” Wii VC games sitting on your console to the Wii U version at a later date, but you’ll have to start over from the beginning.

Vigil posted a couple of art pieces on Facebook that may look familiar to Zelda fans. Take a look below:

Now let’s look at Zelda: Skyward Sword’s boxart:

The art definitely shares a few similarities!

Of the art, Vigil said on Facebook:

During the launch of Darksiders II for Wii U, we crafted tribute art around the Darksiders franchise as a tip of the hat to one of our favorite games.

We felt the community and fans of both Vigil and Darksiders should get to see these awesome pieces of work.
