Silent Hill: Shattered Memories originally pitched as “Cold Heart”
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 3 Comments
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was originally a very different game. Konami was initially pitched “Silent Hill: Cold Heart” by developer Climax Studios.
Cold Heart did retain some elements from Shattered Memories such as themes of ice and cold. However, mostly everything else was changed. Combat, for instance – something absent from Shattered Memories – was planned for Cold Heart. The game also wasn’t originally intended to be a reimagining of the first Silent Hill.
Check out the gallery below for a look at Climax’s 14-page pitch to Konami.

Mod makes online play in New Super Mario Bros. Wii possible
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 6 Comments
New Super Mario Bros. Wii does feature multiplayer, but it’s limited to local play. It was simply impossible to play with a friend online… until now!
Fans have come up with a mod to allow for online multiplayer in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. You can see a demonstration above.
As for how it works on a technical level, YouTube user “MrBean35000vr” explains:
It works by sending a long stream of inputs over the Internet; button presses on a controller. An assigned host dictates RNG (random number generator, random elements in games like which item you get from a box in MKW for instance), and synchronises level loads so that everyone plays the game at the same speed. It also has an adjustable lag threshold, to allow smoother gameplay with people far away with you, at the cost of slight input delay.
There’s no word yet as to when the mod will be widely available. At the moment, its creator is still working through various issues. This is very neat though, and it sounds like online multiplayer could be implemented in other Wii games that have local multiplayer.

Nintendo wins patent case involving Wii system
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 4 Comments
Yesterday, Nintendo won a patent case in a federal court in Seattle, as Judge Robert S. Lasnik found that the Wii does not infringe two patents asserted against Nintendo by UltimatePointer, LLC. It was additionally determined that a trial is not needed since numerous claims from UltimatePointer were invalid.
Chief Judge Leonard Davis of the Eastern District of Texas made similar decisions before the case was transferred to Seattle. Judge Davis also held that Nintendo did not infringe certain asserted claims and that others were invalid.
Richard Medway, Nintendo of America’s vice president and deputy general counsel, said of today’s news:
“We are very pleased with these decisions, which confirmed Nintendo’s position from the beginning – we do not, nor have we ever, infringed these patents. The result in this case, once again, demonstrates that Nintendo will continue to vigorously defend its innovations against patent lawsuits, even if it must do so in multiple courts and commit significant resources to defend itself. Nintendo continues to support reform efforts to reduce the unnecessary and inefficient burden patent cases like this one place on technology companies in the United States.”
